  • Application of diverse conventional and non-conventional approaches/ technologies for sugarcane improvement meet problems of complex genome, narrow genetic base of crop, genetic recombination, and poor fertility coupled with long breeding cycle. To sustain the production, productivity of sugar industry in rational manner, it is imperative to counsel sugarcane farmers for the selection of ideal varieties based on growth duration and maturity groups, planting crop season and kind of crop (plant/ratoon) to be taken.

  • The trails were conducted on cash crops i.e. sugarcane and cotton. In cotton integrated weed control and in sugarcane Sustainable Sugarcane Initiative (SSI) technology was popularized among farmers. Horticultural crops covered under study were onion and pomegranate. In the same way in onion crop to reduce the cost of cultivation integrated weed management and in pomegranate to protect the fruits from sun scorching PP Non woven bag technology was demonstrated at farmer’s field.

  • Ratooning in sugarcane is a common practice in sugarcane as it saves cost of planting material and preparatory tillage and also germinates faster than the seed material. Several chemicals have been used in enhancing the production and productivity. In this regard, the effectiveness of Cytozyme Products over yield and juice quality in sugarcane ratoon crop was assessed. Two ratoon crops were initiated in both the seasons, i.e., autumn and spring using an early ripening and high sugar variety, CoPk 05191, in different fields.

  • Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a main staple for human consumption all over the world. There is ever increasing demand for rice with increasing population and that too it has to be produced on the same stretch of land or less. Secondly, in many of the rice-rice cropping areas the second crop of rice of late is becoming doubtful due to reduced possibility of season-long availability of water for the succeeding crop due to climate change impacts. Energy is the other critical input.

  • An experiment was carried out at ICR farm, Department of Horticulture during 2015-2017 to study the effect of number of suckers per hill on growth, yield and quality of banana cv. Malbhog (AAB) in ratoon crop. The treatments were T1 (mother plant + 1 sucker), T2 (mother plant + 2 suckers), T3 (mother plant + 3 suckers), and T4 (mother plant + 4 suckers) with two spacing - S1 (2.1 m x 2.1 m) and S2 (2.5 m x 2.5 m) for all the treatments. One treatment with recommended package of practices (control) was also included in the experiment.

  • A field experiment was conducted at SBI, RC, Karnal, to assess performance of newly developed six mid early maturing sugarcane cultivars i.e. Co 0116, Co 0118, Co 0237, Co 0238, Co 0239 and Co J 64 (Standard), with two row spacing (75 and 90 cm) under three fertility levels i.e.75, 100 and 125% of recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF) NPK (N150 P21.8 K41.5) with plant-ratoon-wheat system. Varieties ‘Co 0238’ and ‘Co 0118’ recorded the maximum and significantly higher cane yield (93.1 and 88.9 t/ha) and commercial cane sugar (11.76 and 12.

  • Early sowing of rice by 20 June produced significantly the highest grain yield followed by normal (5 July) and late sowings (20 July) and the yield of its stubble crop also followed the similar trend. The combined grain yields of early sown rice-ratoon and the rice equivalent yield (REY) of early sown green gram was significantly higher by 8.64% and 23.74% than normal and late sowings, respectively in rice-ratoon-green gram system. The combined REY in modified system of rice intensification (MSRI)-ratoon-green gram system was 7.33% and 33.

  • Studies on genetic divergence in sugarcane plant and ratoon crops involving sixteen genotypes planted at RAU Pusa Farm, Samastipur, Bihar during 2012-13 and their consecutive ratoon during 2013-14 under low land area with water-stagnation 2 to 3 months to select profitable genotypes tolerant to water logging. Cane yield of plant crop was higher than the ratoon while for juice quality traits of ratoon crop showed better.

  • A field experiment was carried out during rabi 2016 and 2017 at the Agricultural Research Station, Malagi, UAS, Dharwad to study the influence of stubble height and nitrogen fertilizer level on ratoon seed yield in KRH-4 hybrid rice seed production. The experiment consisted of two factors. Factor one was the stubble height which included 3 cutting heights namely H1: (15 cm A line and 15 cm R line), H2: (15 cm A line and 20 cm R line) and H3: (20 cm A line and 20 cm R line). Factor two was the nitrogen fertilizer levels viz.
