Application of diverse conventional and non-conventional approaches/ technologies for sugarcane improvement meet problems of complex genome, narrow genetic base of crop, genetic recombination, and poor fertility coupled with long breeding cycle. To sustain the production, productivity of sugar industry in rational manner, it is imperative to counsel sugarcane farmers for the selection of ideal varieties based on growth duration and maturity groups, planting crop season and kind of crop (plant/ratoon) to be taken.

Ratooning in sugarcane is a common practice in sugarcane as it saves cost of planting material and preparatory tillage and also germinates faster than the seed material. Several chemicals have been used in enhancing the production and productivity. In this regard, the effectiveness of Cytozyme Products over yield and juice quality in sugarcane ratoon crop was assessed. Two ratoon crops were initiated in both the seasons, i.e., autumn and spring using an early ripening and high sugar variety, CoPk 05191, in different fields.

An experiment was carried out at ICR farm, Department of Horticulture during 2015-2017 to study the effect of number of suckers per hill on growth, yield and quality of banana cv. Malbhog (AAB) in ratoon crop. The treatments were T1 (mother plant + 1 sucker), T2 (mother plant + 2 suckers), T3 (mother plant + 3 suckers), and T4 (mother plant + 4 suckers) with two spacing - S1 (2.1 m x 2.1 m) and S2 (2.5 m x 2.5 m) for all the treatments. One treatment with recommended package of practices (control) was also included in the experiment.

A field experiment was conducted at SBI, RC, Karnal, to assess performance of newly developed six mid early maturing sugarcane cultivars i.e. Co 0116, Co 0118, Co 0237, Co 0238, Co 0239 and Co J 64 (Standard), with two row spacing (75 and 90 cm) under three fertility levels i.e.75, 100 and 125% of recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF) NPK (N150 P21.8 K41.5) with plant-ratoon-wheat system. Studies on genetic divergence in sugarcane plant and ratoon crops involving sixteen genotypes planted at RAU Pusa Farm, Samastipur, Bihar during 2012-13 and their consecutive ratoon during 2013-14 under low land area with water-stagnation 2 to 3 months to select profitable genotypes tolerant to water logging.
