  • Cotton is one of the most commercial crops of the world and in the maintaining of many economics. Cotton is cultivated in nearly 100 countries with China, India, United States, Pakistan and Brazil being the five largest producers of cotton. Cotton is the back born of textile industry and provides raw material in the form of lint to the textile industry. A field experiment was conducted, with hirsutum cotton genotype H-1300 during Kharif season 2015 at the Oil Seed Farm of C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur.

  • In this study, the dynamics of changes have been measured in the export of raw cotton from India to different export markets. The compound growth rate, Coefficient of Variance (CV), Cuddy-Della Index and Markov chain analysis were used to analyse the secondary data of raw cotton export for the last 17 years. The result reveals that the export of Indian raw cotton was mainly focused on Bangladesh, Vietnam, Pakistan, China, and Indonesia. Though the export of raw cotton generates better returns, all the countries showed higher instability during the study period.

  • It was found that growth performance of agro-processing industries in Karnataka was unsatisfactory when compared with its other states. It is found that 48 per cent of the household expenditure in India is on food items and the demand for processed/convenience food is constantly increasing. With relatively cheaper labour, low cost of production, base for domestic and export markets could be set up. Processed products like packed polished wheat (atta) has widened the market, attracting multinationals like HALL and Pilsbury (a joint venture with Godrej).

  • Cotton (Gossypium spp.) is one of the important commercial crops grown for its natural fibre, which has its own place among many other natural and synthetic fibres. Among the commercial crops grown in India, cotton occupies a pride place of being the prime supplier of raw material (85%) for textile industry, which is one of the leading industries in the country. In India, cotton provides means of livelihood for about 60 million people through its cultivation, trade and industrial use. Exploitation of heterosis has lead to improvement in productivity of different crops including cotton.
