Raw material of biodiesel

High energy demand driven by decreasing fossil fuels, and global warming because of the burning of fossil fuels necessitates the utilization of renewable and clean energy. One of these renewable energy sources is biodiesel. The increasing trend of biodiesel over the last 20 years tends to result in increasing glycerol (Gly), which is produced during the biodiesel production in 10% ratio (w/w) as a by-product. Using Gly as raw material is an alternative way to produce bio-based new products such as glycerol carbonate (GlyC).

Waste cooking oil is applied as a raw material of biodiesel because it has the characteristics of diesel fuel. This research was carried out based on American Standard Testing and Material Methods. The potential for using dog feces and dog feces treated with the larvae of the Black Soldier Fly (Hermatia illucens) and Fruit Beetle (Pachnodia marginata peregrina) as a source of biodiesel was determined. It was shown that potential biodiesel precursors (mainly fatty acids) were present in the larvae themselves and in both raw dog feces and the feces treated with the two different larvae. While the addition of the larvae to dog feces did not increase the amount of fatty acids produced they did alter the lipid composition.

It is of great knowledge nowadays that the use of fossil fuels is responsible for the emission of gases that intensify the greenhouse effect, which threatens the survival of the humankind. The gravity of this fact could be mitigated through the indirect use of solar energy for fuels derived from vegetable that can be planted and cultivated by the world of renewable and non -polisher. As early as the beginning of the 20th century Rudolf Diesel proposed vegetable oil as fuel for his engine.1 A short time later, before and during World War Two, vegetable oil was examined in “up-to-date” diesel engines.
