This article conducts an exhaustive investigation into the utilization of machine learning (ML) methods for forecasting the maximum load capacity (MLC) of circular reinforced concrete columns (CRCC) using Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP). Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGB) algorithm is combined with novel metaheuristic algorithms, namely Sailfish Optimizer and Aquila Optimizer, to fine-tune its hyperparameters.

Strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) columns is needed when the actual load-carrying capacity of the columns does not reach the required level due to either structural deterioration or increasing acting loads. This experimental study aims to evaluate the strengthening effect on the eccentrically-compressed RC columns using Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets, that confine around the column cross-section.

Beam-column joints play an important role, affecting the earthquake response of reinforced concrete (RC) frames. This paper introduces the results of experimental research on the failure and deformation of the joints, as well as the causes of these behaviors.

This paper addresses the strength and deformation capacity of slender columns retrofitted by externally bonded Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) subjected to seismic loading. The behaviour of RC columns depending on the CFRP confinement (carbon CFRP jacket) and on flexural reinforcement (carbon plates) was analysed by a nonlinear finite element method based on multilayer shell element and multifiber beams with plasticity and damage models.

The potential for progressive collapse of RC buildings can be estimated by column loss scenarios. The loss of either internal or external penultimate columns is among the most critical scenarios since the beam-slab substructures associated with the removed column becomes laterally unrestrained with two discontinuous edges.

This article evaluates and compares the punching shear behaviour of unbonded prestressed concrete (UPC) slab - concrete-filled steel tube (CFT) column connections/joints with that of reinforced concrete (RC) slab – CFT column connections. The experimental program was carried out on five large-sized samples, including three UPC slab - CFT column samples and two RC slab - CFT column samples.
