Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) is a cytokine with multiple functions, including cell growth regulation, extracellular matrix production, angiogenesis homeostasis adjustment and et al. TGF-β pathway activation promotes tumor metastasis/progression and mediates epithelial-mesenchymal transmission suppressing immunosurveillance in advanced tumors.

The androgen/androgen receptor (AR)-signaling axis plays a central role in prostate cancer (PCa). Upon androgen-binding the AR dimerizes with another AR, and translocates into the nucleus where the AR-dimer activates/inactivates androgen-dependent genes. Consequently, treatments for PCa are commonly based on androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the digestive tract. Acquired functional mutations in the tyrosine-protein kinase growth factor receptor proto-oncogene (KIT) and platelet-derived growth factor-alpha gene lead to increased tyrosine kinase activity, which is considered a key factor in the pathogenesis of GIST.

This volume provides current methods to analyze the properties of designer receptors exclusively activated by designer drugs (DREADDs) in vitro and to measure the biological responses of DREADD activation in different neuronal populations in vivo. Chapters focus on the utility of DREADD technology to selectively stimulate or inhibit neuronal activity in selected brain areas of transgenic mice.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the biological activity of some pyridine derivatives (compounds 1 to 15) on perfusion pressure in an isolated rat heart model. Furthermore, theoretical interaction of pyridine derivatives with the M2 muscarinic receptor was determined using acetylcholine, AF-DX 116 and the 3uon protein as theoretical tools in a docking model.

The growth factor receptor network (GFRN) plays a significant role in driving key oncogenic processes. However, assessment of global GFRN activity is challenging due to complex crosstalk among GFRN components, or pathways, and the inability to study complex signaling networks in patient tumors.

The liver X receptors (LXRs, NR1H2 and NR1H3) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARG, NR1C3) nuclear receptor transcription factors (TFs) are master regulators of energy homeostasis. Intriguingly, recent studies suggest that these metabolic regulators also impact tumor cell proliferation.

Ebook "RAMPs (Advances in experimental medicine and biology, Volume 744)" provides a general introduction to RAMPs including its discovery. The second chapter (by Poyner and colleagues) and the third chapter (by Bomberger and colleagues) are intended to provide in depth discussion on how the different RAMP isoforms can regulate various aspects of receptor signaling especially stimulated with calcitonin gene related peptide (CGRP) and adrenomedullin. In addition, in the third chapter, Bomberger et al discuss the differences in RAMP2 and -3 with regard to their role in receptor trafficking.

Mast cells are closely associated with epithelium, serving as sentinels responsible for the recognition of tissue injury and coordination of the initial inflammatory response. Upon detection of the injured cell content, mast cells then tailor the release of preformed and newly produced chemical mediators to the detected challenge, via an array of pathogen receptors.

Ebook "Advanced technologies for managing insect pests" among the highlights of this book is the use of novel insecticides acting on a specific site in an insect group and are compatible with natural enemies and the environment. One of such approaches is based on disrupting the activity of biochemical sites acting on transcription factors such as the Helix-Loop-Helix (bHLH) family, anti juvenile hormone (AJH) agents that target JH biosynthetic enzymes, G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR) and bursicon as a target for insect control.
