  • Ebook "Plant cell culture protocols (Third edition)" is taught around the world as part of undergraduate and graduate courses in agronomical and biological sciences. However, the apparent simplicity of cell culture technology should not lead to mistakingly consider it as trivial. It would be very diffi cult to understand modern plant biotechnology without in vitro cell cultures and even today, the application of recombinant DNA technology to important crops is hampered by the poor embryogenic or morphogenetic response of in vitro cultured tissues.

  • In this study, the DNA fragment encoding for the C-terminus domain of the AopB from Aeromonas hydrophila AH-1 was cloned into pET-M expression vector and expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) host cells. The recombinant AopB-C-terminus domain was successfully purified using immobilized nickel affinity chromatography as a soluble form. Crosslinking analysis among AopB-C-terminus molecules in solution showed that this domain existed as a mixture of tetramer, trimer, dimer, and monomer forms.

  • Tomato leaf curl virus (ToLCV) is a major Geminivirus which cause serious loss to tomato production in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Hence, considered as major constraint to tomato cultivation. In the present study ToLCV coat protein gene was cloned and expressed using recombinant DNA technology approach. The ToLCV infected tomato leaf samples were collected from tomato fields near Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dharwad. Further, the total DNA from ToLCV infected tomato leaf sample was isolated by following CTAB protocol.

  • Application of transgenic technology for commercial crop production is faced with biosafety issues. These concerns are based on the argument that recombinant DNA-based transgenic technology differs from traditional breeding in that totally new gens using potentially risky technology are transferred between widely unrelated organisms and the location of these genes on the recipient genome is random, unlike when gene transfer take place through conventional breeding.

  • Despite massive efforts in drug discovery fueled by combinatory chemistry, recombinant DNA technology, and highthroughput screening, surprisingly few molecules make it through the drug development process. While the reasons are debated, it is certain that many new chemical entities (NCEs) suffer from recurring problems that hinder development— low water solubility, instability, or inadequate pharmacokinetics. An estimated 43% of NCEs are poorly water-soluble.
