Reconstructing genomic segments

Reconstructing genomic segments from metagenomics data is a highly complex task. In addition to general challenges, such as repeats and sequencing errors, metagenomic assembly needs to tolerate the uneven depth of coverage among organisms in a community and differences between nearly identical strains.

Their study can help localize tumor suppressor genes, distinguish different populations of cancerous cells, and identify genomic variations responsible for disease phenotypes.

During cancer progression genomes undergo point mutations as well as larger segmental changes. The latter include, among others, segmental deletions duplications, translocations and inversions.The result is a highly complex, patient-specific cancer karyotype.

The rbcL gene of the chloroplast genome is widely used as an additional data for the study of species origin, molecular evolution and phylogeny. In this study, we used the rbcL gene to separate three species of genus Stephania: S. japonica, S. polygona, S. rotunda and one subspecies S. japonica var. discolor from Vietnam. Molecular analysis was performed on 523 bp segment of the rbcL genes with 4 examined samples of the genus Stephania and 18 other genbank sequences of five genera Pachygone, Antizoma, Cissampelos, Cyclea and Syntriandrium.
