  • Physicochemical test relies on the chemical composition of rice, viz cooking quality, gelatinization temperature and physical properties. To evaluate the milling characteristics of 10 different paddy genotypes were taken. All genotypes had different dimensions, the average length varied from 8.77 to 9.88 mm, average width varied from 2.02 to 3.09 mm, Average test weight varied from 27.12 to 30.19g, Bulk density and true density varied from 0.59 to 0.68 g/ml3 and 1.12 to 1.44 g/ml3 , Angle of repose 29.37 to 32.45 respectively.

  • The amount of K fixed increased and percent of added K fixed of the soils decreased consistently with increasing rate of K application. Maximum percentage of K fixation was occurred at low rate of K application and minimum at higher dose of K application. The overall K fixation capacity of the soils was moderate. Recovery and fixation rate of K per unit of added K in the soils varied from 0.51 to 0.73 and 0.27 to 0.48, respectively. The unit fertilizer K requirement per unit increase in soil available K ranged from 1.36 to 1.94.

  • Coconut shells were used as a raw material to produce powdered adsorbent carbon of size less than 2mm. The pH, electrical conductivity, proximate analysis (moisture content, volatile matter, ash content and fixed carbon content), ultimate analysis (Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Sulphur content), bulk density, particle density, total organic carbon and yield (percentage recovery) were analyzed as per the standard procedures. The raw material of about 20 kg was converted to adsorbent carbon of about 6 kg through thermochemical conversion in the absence of oxygen.

  • Ratio subtraction and isosbestic point methods are two innovative spectrophotometric methods for determining the concentrations of metronidazole (I) and diloxanide furoate (II) in a mixture. Metronidazole was determined by direct spectrophotometric method at kmax 314.0 nm in the presence of diloxanide furoate in the range of 4–24 lg ml1 with a mean recovery percentage of 99.83 ± 1.41. Two spectrophotometric methods were developed for the spectral resolution of diloxanide furoate when present in mixture with metronidazole without preliminary separation.

  • Three sensitive methods were developed for simultaneous determination of Ezetimibe (EZB) and Atorvastatin calcium (ATVC) in binary mixtures. First derivative (D1 ) spectrophotometry was employed for simultaneous determination of EZB (223.8 nm) and ATVC (233.0 nm) with a mean percentage recovery of 100.23 ± 1.62 and 99.58 ± 0.84, respectively. Linearity ranges were 10.00–30.00 lg mL1 and 10.00–35.00 lg mL1 , respectively. Isosbestic point (IS) spectrophotometry, in conjunction with second derivative (D2 ) spectrophotometry was employed for analysis of the same mixture.

  • Though the savings from technological improvements are significant, they tend to be small compared with fluctuations in the net cost of corn, the main ethanol feedstock. This is illustrated in table 2, which presents data on corn costs and profits from the coproduct DDGS (distiller’s dried grains with solubles) in dry-mill ethanol production from 1981-2004. Since 1981, sales of DDGS have recovered nearly half the cost of each bushel of corn used to produce ethanol, peaking in 1986, when over 66 percent of the feedstock cost was recovered this way.

  • Several European cases highlight to varying degrees the roles of direct and indirect crossborder credit in the course of the global credit boom of the 2000s (Graph 1). Direct crossborder credit to non-banks in Ireland (dark shaded area), for example, grew at roughly 40% year on year in the three years prior to the crisis (centre panel), 10 percentage points above the rate for domestic bank credit. Moreover, banks in Ireland drew on indirect cross-border credit (left-hand panel, dashed brown line) to support their domestic lending.
