Ebook "Greening in the Red zone: Disaster, resilience and community greening" provides evidence for this assertion through cases and examples. The contributors to this volume use a variety of research and policy frameworks to explore how creation and access to green spaces in extreme situations might contribute to resistance, recovery, and resilience of social-ecological systems.

At present, low-concentration carbohydrate is rarely used in minor trauma surgery, and its clinical efficacy is unknown. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of preoperative oral low-concentration carbohydrate on patient-centered quality of recovery in patients undergoing thyroidectomy using Quality of Recovery − 15 (QoR-15) questionnaire.

This study was conducted to map Quantitative Trait Loci (QTLs) associated with recovery resistance to MSV in a mapping population comprising 250 S1 lines derived from a cross between two MSV resistant lines. The population was genotyped using single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers at 269 loci. A genetic map of 11 linkage groups was constructed comprising 230 SNP markers.

=Sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) is an important commercial crop, cultivated across the world. Smut disease is one of the major diseases of sugarcane. Severe smut infection affects the sugar recovery as well as yield loss ranging from 10 to70 %. The present study was based on the evaluation of seventy five sugarcane genotypes against smut disease by following seed sett inoculation technique under field condition to screen out the newer sources of resistance as well as susceptible for the development of the smut resistant varieties.

The use of knee braces early after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is a controversial issue. The study preliminarily compares the effect of a traditional brace blocked in knee extension and a new functional brace equipped with a spring resistance on walking and strength performance early after ACL reconstruction performed in the acute/subacute stage.

This study focused on establishing the presence of Campylobacter at the farm and retail level and evaluated the antibiogram profile of isolated species. Campylobacter spp. were isolated on mCCDA agar and confirmed by API Campy (biomereaux, France) and the susceptibility profile determined by Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method.

17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 10 (HSD10) has been shown to play a protective role in cells undergoing stress. Upregulation of HSD10 under nutrient-limiting conditions leads to recovery of a homeostatic state.

MRSA has become a leading cause of infections in both the community and in hospitals. Healthcare-associated MRSA (HA-MRSA) are the strains that circulate and are transmitted to individuals within health care facilities. The infected or colonized patients serve as the major reservoirs of MRSA in health care facilities. Transient carriage of MRSA on the hands of health care workers is the predominant mode of transmission from health care workers to patients and further from one patient to other patient.

Immobilized polyextremophilic α-Amylase of Bacillus mycoides for citric acid production using starch
Immobilization is a wide spread technique in the last three decades. It is a powerful method which can improve properties of enzymes like stability, activity, resistance to inhibition due to the by-products in fermentation and its quick recovery. In the present investigation a halophilic organism Bacillus mycoides producing α-amylase was isolated from saline water. A mixed fermenter system was made for citric acid production using starch.

Samba Mahsuri (BPT 5204) is one of the most popular and high yielding rice variety, grown extensively in India and other Asian countries also. However, it is highly susceptible to blast disease, caused by the fungal pathogen Pyricularia oryzae. The near isogenic line C101LAC derived from LAC23 possessing Pi-1 gene was selected as donor, which is located on chromosome 11. The MAS useful to develop resistance line with highest recurrent parent genome within a short period. The C101LAC carrying resistant gene Pi-1 was crossed with Samba Mahsuri to generate the mapping populations.

Recently environmental metagenomics are useful methodology to study microbial diversity in the environment as well as functional metabolic genes. This study was also based on metagenomic method to discover antibiotic resistance genes from aquatic environments. To create a metagenomic library, the environmental DNA was extracted from water and sediment sample of Thi Nghe canal, Ho Chi Minh City. Total DNA then was fragmented by sizes of 1-3 kb and inserted in to pUC19 plasmid. After transformation into E.

With one-dimensional nanostructure, the AgNWs connects effectively together many rGO islands and reduce significantly their contact resistance so that NH3 sensing signal is improved and complete recovery of the sensor is nearly achieved at room temperature. Especially, all these signals are further enhanced when the AuNPs (diameter ~ 30 nm) are added into the hybrid.

Donations are usually provided as part of humanitarian assistance to save lives and alleviate suffering. Some donations were given with good intentions but due to lack of proper communication between donors and recipient, such donations may cause problems. Pharmaceuticals may arrive past or near their expiry date, may be inappropriate for the needs, unrecognizable because they are labeled in a foreign language or may have been sent in unwanted quantities. Donations with long shelf life may be mismanaged, particularly in the confusion during and after armed conflict or a natural disaster.

Nowadays, chemical pesticides are the traditional solution to weed and pest problems, and although they have saved lives and crops, the greatest risk to our environment and our health comes from their use. Many significant problems from their use include con‐ tamination of the environment, the development of pesticide resistance in the target pest, the recovery of pest species, the phytotoxicity in crop fields, and the unacceptably high levels of pesticide/commodity residue in food.

The work programme also covers the complementary policy objective of addressing specific global health issues. Greater focus will be placed on antimicrobial resistance and continuing to address emerging epidemics. In antimicrobial resistance the aim will be to further focus on understanding of the evolution and the transfer of antibiotic resistance as well as antimicrobial drug resistance in Gram negative infections, the development of tools to control microbial biofilms and the development of multi-analyte diagnostics.

Some flow cytometers have the ability to physically separate different sub-populations of interest (cell sorting) depending on their cytometric characteristics (stream-in-air), thus permitting the recovery and purification of cell subsets from a mixed population for further applications (Bergquist et al., 2009; Davey, 2010).
