One of the most common and recurrent vaginal infections is bacterial vaginosis (BV). The diagnosis is based on changes to the “normal” vaginal microbiome; however, the normal microbiome appears to differ according to reproductive status and ethnicity, and even among individuals within these groups.

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is one of the common vaginal infections among childbearing women. The usual treatment for BV is metronidazole; hence 30% of women have recurrence within 60 to 90 days after treatment. There are some studies which assessed the effect of secnidazole on BV.

Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is a shift or disturbance in balance of vaginal microflora, the normal vaginal microflora consisting of Lactobacillus is replaced by over growth of other commensal bacteria. Other characteristic of BV is increase in vaginal pH. Clinically BV presents as increased thin homogenous vaginal discharge with or without burning micturation and itching. Bacterial Vaginosis This syndrome (formerly termed nonspecific vaginitis, Haemophilus vaginitis, anaerobic vaginitis, or Gardnerella-associated vaginal discharge) is characterized by symptoms of vaginal malodor and a slightly to moderately increased white discharge, which appears homogeneous, is low in viscosity, and evenly coats the vaginal mucosa. An interesting observation is that new genital HPV infection in young women is associated with increased subsequent risk of developing bacterial vaginosis.
