  • A survey was conducted in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra to isolate the actinomycetes from the soil samples for study. Twenty seven cultures of actinomycetes were isolated, purified and designated as actinomycetes (A1 to A27). The test cultures A1 to A27 were taken for studying their acaridical activity. Preliminary screening revealed that five of the isolates were active against spider mite, Tetranychus urticae on okra. Out of the sixteen isolates A7 and A27 isolate showed highest activity against red spider mite, Tetranychus urticae.

  • Experiments conducted on seasonal incidence of Tetranychus urticae Koch. During the year 2013-2014 at the University Farm of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu revealed that the incidence of red spider mite, T. urticae was 14.40 mites/leaf/plant in the 14th standard week and reached its maximum 27.50 mites/leaf/plant in the 12th standard week.

  • A field experiment was conducted on marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) to evaluate few insecticidal molecules, viz., novaluron, carbosulfan, imidachloprid, bifentrhin, methyl-o-demeton, chlorpyriphos dust, neem oil, propargite and thiamethoxam alone against the field populations of Tetranychus urticae Koch during 2014 and 2015 at the Research Farm, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu, India.

  • An experiment of rubber plants intercropped with tea was conducted at the Regional Experiment Station, Nagrakata, Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal to see the feasibility of growing tea as intercrop with rubber in Dooars area of north Bengal. It can be concluded that tea can successfully be grown as beneficial intercrop in between the inter-row spaces of rubber by changing in the crop geometry during immature phase of rubber with additional benefit of less attack of red spider mite to tea crop/leaf.

  • Mites pose an increasing threat to grape cultivation in grape growing areas in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh causing heavy loss in the field. Mites which are minor pests earlier in grapes have become serious, particularly before harvest of the crop in the recent years. Two species viz., Tetranychus urticae, and Eutetranychus orientalis are found causing damage to grapevine both in Telanagna and Andhra Pradesh. Among them, the two spotted red spider mite T. urticae causes severe loss.
