Only a small fraction of patients respond to the drug prescribed to treat their disease, which means that most are at risk of unnecessary exposure to side effects through ineffective drugs. This inter-individual variation in drug response is driven by differences in gene interactions caused by each patient’s genetic background, environmental exposures, and the proportions of specific cell types involved in disease.

The serotonin 2A receptor is widely implicated in genetic association studies and remains an important drug target for psychiatric, neurological, and cardiovascular conditions. RNA sequencing redefined the architecture of the serotonin 2A receptor gene (HTR2A), revealing novel mRNA transcript isoforms utilizing unannotated untranslated regions of the gene.

The HTR1B gene encodes the 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT1B) receptor, which is involved in a variety of brain activities and mental disorders. The regulatory effects of non-coding regions on genomic DNA are one of many reasons for the cause of genetic-related diseases.

Most cancer risk-associated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) identified by genome-wide association studies (GWAS) are noncoding and it is challenging to assess their functional impacts. To systematically identify the SNPs that affect gene expression by modulating activities of distal regulatory elements, we adapt the self-transcribing active regulatory region sequencing (STARR-seq) strategy, a high-throughput technique to functionally quantify enhancer activities.

Mapping of allele-specific DNA methylation (ASM) can be a post-GWAS strategy for localizing regulatory sequence polymorphisms (rSNPs). The advantages of this approach, and the mechanisms underlying ASM in normal and neoplastic cells, remain to be clarified.

Identifying functional non-coding variation is critical for defining the genetic contributions to human disease. While single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within cis-acting transcriptional regulatory elements have been implicated in disease pathogenesis, not all cell types have been assessed and functional validations have been limited. In particular, the cells of the peripheral nervous system have been excluded from genome-wide efforts to link non-coding SNPs to altered gene function.

The aim of this study was to analyze potential influences of polymorphisms within the regulatory region of the bovine SIRT6 gene on carcass quality traits. Expression analyses suggested that SIRT6 gene is predominately expressed in kidney, compared with other tissues. In 535 indigenous Chinese beef cattle, two novel single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified within the promoter region of the SIRT6 gene.

As a fundamental genomic element, meiotic recombination hotspot plays important roles in life sciences. Thus uncovering its regulatory mechanisms has broad impact on biomedical research. Despite the recent identification of the zinc finger protein PRDM9 and its 13-mer binding motif as major regulators for meiotic recombination hotspots, other regulators remain to be discovered.

Development of SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) marker is an important step to initiate the molecular breeding and genetic based studies. Identification and validation of polymorphic SNP will be valuable resource for gene tagging through linkage mapping/QTL mapping. In present study, two ecological ecotypes of Arabidopsis thaliana i.e. Col-0 and Don-0 exhibited variation at phenotypic level (leaf, flower, siliques and root related traits) and genotypic level (SNPs). Out of 500 SNPs, total 365 polymorphic SNPs were validated on Sequenome MassARRAY.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with chronic inflammation, suggesting the metabolic abnormalities are originated from or exacerbated by cytokine overproduction. Cytokines and counter-regulatory molecules are crucial in keeping the balance of immune responses and, therefore, are potential candidates involved in T2DM etiology, development and complications.

Perhaps the most far-reaching regulatory change affecting net worth was the liberal- ization of the accounting rules for supervisory goodwill. 19 Effective in July 1982, the Bank Board eliminated the existing ten-year amortization restriction on goodwill, thereby allow- ing S&Ls to use the general GAAP standard of no more than 40 years in effect at the time.

Compared to the rather large A and H markets, which have experienced a consistently fast development, the B market is much smaller sized and less active as an investment avenue. Since 2002, it has almost lost its meaning in raising foreign capital for the domestic industry. This setting triggers the question whether the Chinese Securities Regulatory Commission shall support further independence of the B market or foster a merge into A or H market.
