In this work, a shear locking treatment for thin First-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) plates based on the n-node discrete shear gap is introduced to analyze the static behavior of the bending plate. The FSDT is a simple formulation suitable for relatively thick plates, and therefore, when thin plates are considered, the well-known shear locking issue may occur and cause errors in the numerical result.

The relative contributions of genetic and environmental factors versus unavoidable stochastic risk factors to the variation in cancer risk among tissues have become a widely-discussed topic. Some claim that the stochastic effects of DNA replication are mainly responsible, others believe that cancer risk is heavily affected by environmental and hereditary factors.

Single beam echo sounders (SBES) mounted on unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) are widely used in hydrographic surveying, particularly for detecting water depth and digital depth mapping, among other things. Because of conditions such as ocean waves, the relative level arm of each component, and errors in each component device, using only SBES and GPS sensors leads to significant errors and poor accuracy. Now the SBES sensor's accuracy has improved.

Although medication poisoning in older adults is considered an increasingly important, but prevent‑ able cause of death, it has received relatively little attention. We explored recent trends and correlates of suicidal and accidental fatal drug poisonings among older and working-age individuals using nationwide data from Spain.

Acetabular prosthesis positioning in total hip arthroplasty (THA) is crucial in reducing the risk of dislocation. There has been minimal research on the proper way to put the acetabular components into the safe zone intraoperatively.

Viral populations are complex, dynamic, and fast evolving. The evolution of groups of closely related viruses in a competitive environment is termed quasispecies. To fully understand the role that quasispecies play in viral evolution, characterizing the trajectories of viral genotypes in an evolving population is the key. In particular, longrange haplotype information for thousands of individual viruses is critical; yet generating this information is non-trivial.

Hybrid genome assembly approaches leverage benefits of both long, relatively error-prone reads from third-generation sequencing technologies and short, accurate reads from secondgeneration sequencing technologies, to produce more accurate and contiguous de novo genome assemblies in comparison to using either technology independently.

Second-generation sequencers generate millions of relatively short, but error-prone, reads. These errors make sequence assembly and other downstream projects more challenging. Correcting these errors improves the quality of assemblies and projects which benefit from error-free reads.

This article presents new explicit regression equations for the critical depth in a partially full circular culvert. The proposed formula is quite simple, and the relative maximum error is 3.03%. It would be very useful as a reference for design in conduit engineering.

The development of next-generation sequencing has made it possible to sequence whole genomes at a relatively low cost. However, de novo genome assemblies remain challenging due to short read length, missing data, repetitive regions, polymorphisms and sequencing errors.

Relatively small changes to gene expression data dramatically affect co-expression networks inferred from that data which, in turn, can significantly alter the subsequent biological interpretation. This error propagation is an underappreciated problem that, while hinted at in the literature, has not yet been thoroughly explored.

The Sharpe ratio is a common financial performance measure that represents the optimal risk versus return of an investment portfolio, also defined as the slope of the capital market line within the mean-variance Markowitz efficient frontier. Obtaining sample point and confidence interval estimates for this metric is challenging due to both its dynamic nature and issues surrounding its statistical properties.

Water resource assessment involved various variables that can be simplified and tackled by developing a suitable mathematical model. Rainfall-Runoff (RR) modeling considered as a major hydrologic process and is essential for water resources management. This study presents the development of rainfall-runoff model based on artificial neural networks (ANNs) models in Shipra river basin of Madhya Pradesh. The ability of model was evaluated based on sum of squares error (SSE) and relative error.

This study aimed to Performance of seven radiation models. The objective was to determine the most accurate model for estimating solar radiation. Performance and Evaluation of all the models on the same basis is prerequisite for selecting an alternative approach in accordance with available data such as air temperature (Tmax, Tmin, Tmean), actual sunshine hours (n), Relative Humidity (Rhmax, Rhmin & RHmean) and potential sunshine hours (N).

Regression is one among the most used vital machine learning and statistical tool. Regression is a method of modeling a target value based on independent predictors. It allows making predictions from data by understanding the relationship between features of data and observed continuous-valued response. Support Vector Regression (SVR) is one of the useful and flexible techniques, helping the user to deal with the limitations pertaining to distributional properties of underlying variables, the geometry of the data and the common problem of model overfitting.

A realistic new sediment–laden water prediction computer model was developed. In this model unsteady non-uniform flow computations were incorporated. Using this model, flooding flow–sediments were simulated and compared to earlier research including hydrologic engineering centre (HEC-series) computer models. Uncertain value of parameters and errors in flow–sediment transport equation in existing coupled flow–sediment models were studied.

Alternative estimators have been derived for estimating the variance components according to Iterative Almost Unbiased Estimation (IAUE). As a result two modified IAUEs are introduced. The relative performances of the proposed estimators and other estimators are studied by simulating their bias, Mean Square Error and the probability of getting negative estimates under unbalanced nested-factorial model with two fixed crossed factorial and one nested random factor.

This paper deals with studying and modeling static friction coefficient (SFC) and dynamic friction coefficient (DFC) of wheat grain as affected by several treatments. Significance of single effect (SE) and dual interaction effect (DIE) of treatments (moisture content and contact surface) on SFC and, SE, DIE, and triple interaction effect (TIE) of treatments (moisture content, contact surface and sliding velocity) on DFC were determined using statistical analysis methods. Multiple linear regression (MLR) modeling was employed to predict SFC and DFC on different contact surfaces.
