  • Advances in next generation sequencing allow us to do DNA sequencing rapidly at a relatively low cost. Multiple bioinformatics methods have been developed to identify genomic variants from whole genome or whole exome sequencing data. The development of better variant calling methodologies is limited by the difficulty of assessing the accuracy and completeness of a new method.

  • Patients undergoing emergency surgery may present with the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) or develop this syndrome postoperatively. The incidence of ARDS in the postoperative period is relatively low, but the impact of ARDS on patient outcomes and healthcare costs is relevant Aakre et.al (Mayo Clin Proc 89:181-9, 2014).

  • qPCR is a very popular method for identifying nucleotide sequences as a result of its sensitivity and relatively low cost and technical simplicity. Normalization is one of the most important steps in analyzing qPCR data and the use of reference genes is the most common normalization strategy. In the present study five commonly used reference genes (18S, 28S, ef1a, β-act, and α-tub) were evaluated for their stability in the mantle, gill, foot, and pallial gland of date mussel (L. lithophaga) in different seasons.

  • Low-cost activated carbon (AC) samples obtained from waste coffee grounds were used for CO2 and CH4 adsorption. ACs were prepared by chemical activation and carbonized at three different temperatures. AC carbonized at 800◦C showed a relatively high surface area (582.92 m2 g−1) and high adsorption capacities of 2.6 mmol g−1 and 1.1 mmol g−1 at 25◦C for CO2 and CH4, respectively. Adsorbent samples were prepared by loading of Fe3+ metal ions onto ACs and their adsorption capacities were compared with those of nonloaded ACs.

  • Given their widespread availability and relatively low cost, percutaneous thermal ablation is commonly performed under the guidance of computed tomography (CT) or ultrasound (US). However, such imaging modalities may be restricted due to insufficient image contrast and limited tumor visibility, which results in imperfect intraoperative treatment or an increased risk of damage to critical anatomical structures.

  • The first line of treatment in Diabetes mellitus includes the use of oral hypoglycemic agents which are associated with several side effects. Herbal agents are known for their effectiveness due to their fewer side effects and relatively low cost. Umbelliferone, a coumarin has been reported to reduce or decrease blood glucose, elevated plasma insulin, protein profile, and cause hypolipidemic effect. Six groups of rats were used as control, diabetic control, umbelliferone at 20 mg/kg b.wt., umbelliferone at 40 mg/kg b.wt. and combination of glibenclamide and umbelliferone at 20 mg/kg b. wt.

  • India has virtual monopoly in pigeonpea production accounting to 90% of world’s total production but the average productivity is relatively low due to terminal moisture stress and the production is not adequate to meet the demand of increasing population. To meet the said demand pigeon pea productivity has to be increased. There is a need for judicious management of available water and plant nutrients through different fertilizers to increase the productivity and to reduce the production costs of pigeonpea.

  • This revolution helped the US to turn itself from an importer of gas to an exporter of gas. Thus, it is important to discuss the current shale gas scenario, its prospects as well as its scope for growth in the future Indian energy market. Thus, the country needs to focus on the development of shale oil and shale gas resources as they have the potential to significantly contribute to the gas supply at a relatively low cost.

  • Structural variants (SVs) in human genomes are implicated in a variety of human diseases. Long-read sequencing delivers much longer read lengths than short-read sequencing and may greatly improve SV detection. However, due to the relatively high cost of long-read sequencing, it is unclear what coverage is needed and how to optimally use the aligners and SV callers.

  • Among the various agro-techniques uprooting aged seedlings and ideal number of seedling/hill are the two supreme important agronomic practices for attainment the higher grain yield of rice, under both sufficient and limited resource conditions. Number of seedling per hill theatres a most important role in relative to maximise grain yield of rice and also for communal rice varieties. If fewer number of seedlings per hill is used, the probable yield cannot be realize, If extra seedlings is used it might not be cost effective.

  • It was found that growth performance of agro-processing industries in Karnataka was unsatisfactory when compared with its other states. It is found that 48 per cent of the household expenditure in India is on food items and the demand for processed/convenience food is constantly increasing. With relatively cheaper labour, low cost of production, base for domestic and export markets could be set up. Processed products like packed polished wheat (atta) has widened the market, attracting multinationals like HALL and Pilsbury (a joint venture with Godrej).
