Remaining useful life estimation

During the pre-monsoon months (March-May) in Nepal, severe thunder and hailstorms cause significant property and agricultural damage in addition to loss of life from lightening. Forecasting thunderstorm severity remains a challenge even in wealthy, developed countries that have modern meteorological data gathering infrastructure, such as Doppler Radar. This study attempts to isolate the specific and unique characteristics of a hailstorm that not only might explain its severity, but also suggest forecasting techniquees for future forecasting in Nepal.

The aim of this research is to estimate the remaining useful life of an unspecified complex system using some data-driven approaches. The approaches are suitable for problems in which a data library of complete runs of a system is available. Given a non-complete run of the system, the RUL can be predicted using these approaches.

Intangible assets include goodwill arising from acquisitions made after January 1, 1992. Goodwill is amortized using the straight-line method over its estimated economic life, not to exceed forty years. Certain acquired intangible assets other than goodwill (‘in-process R&D') are expensed in the period of acquisition. Patents and trademarks acquired from third parties are capitalized and amortized over their remaining lifetime.
