Quang Truc forest (QTF) is a remote area in the South-West of Dak Nong province, Vietnam, which is well known for valuable timber species representative for central highland of Vietnam with different globally and nationally threatened species. However, the general understanding of plant diversity of QTF has been still poorly known. The objectives of this paper are to figure out the plant diversity of QTF and compare that with other protected forest areas in Dak Nong province, in order to provide scientific evidences for conservation and sustainable development.

The objective of this study is to investigate the hotspot (fires and other thermal anomalies) detection and characterization product from the TET-1 satellite sensing system from the German Aerospace Centre (DLR). The satellite is envisioned, as part of a constellation of satellites, to provide detection and characterization of fires at a higher spatial resolution when compared to the current standard global coverage from the MODIS fire products.

Soil erosion is a naturally occurring process in mountainous areas that affects all landforms. Located in Central of Vietnam, in the tropical monsoon climate Da Nang City is characterized by more than 70 percentage of area with hilly and mountainous topography. This study is objective apply the Universal Soil Loss Equation (ULSE) model developed by Wischmeier and Smith (1978) integrating with remote sensing data and Geographical Information System (GIS) tool to evaluate soil erosion risk in Da Nang City, Vietnam.

Using remotely sensed data to identify burnt forest areas produces fast, economical, and highly accurate results. Accordingly, in this study we investigate the capabilities of Göktürk-2, Turkey’s national satellite, for mapping burnt forest areas. We compare our results with those obtained from Landsat-8 and Worldview-2 satellite images, which are frequently used for mapping burnt areas. The capabilities of the satellites are compared, in terms of detecting burnt forest areas, using support vector machine (SVM) and rotation forest (RF) classification.
