  • Nowadays it is hard to find areas of human activity and development that have not profited from or contributed to remote sensing. Natural, physical and social activities find in remote sensing a common ground for interaction and development. From the end-user point of view, Earth science, geography, planning, resource management, public policy design, environmental studies, and health, are some of the areas whose recent development has been triggered and motivated by remote sensing.

  • Signal processing has been playing an increasingly important role in remote sensing, though most remote sensing literatures are concerned with remote sensing images. Many data received by remote sensors such as microwave and geophysical sensors, are signals or waveforms, which can be processed by analog and digital signal processing techniques.

  • In this research, remote sensing technology was used to evaluate urban development and its thermal characteristics through mapping impervious surfaces and evaluating thermal infrared images. The study is carried out in the northern part of Ho Chi Minh City, which is experienced an accelerated urban development since the end of 1980s. Landsat and Aster images were used to calculate the variation in urban impervious surfaces from 1989 to 2006. Thermal bands were processed to obtain land surface temperatures for investigating the urban heat island effect...

  • This study focuses on the use of remotely sensed data for monitoring coastline changes in the Red River Delta during the 1998 to 2008 period. For the satellite image data processing, the shoreline was defined as the mean sea level on the muddy coast where the tide is the dominant dynamic factor and as the mean high sea level on the sandy coast where the ocean waves are the dominant dynamic factor.

  • Image registration is the process of spatially aligning two or more images of a scene. This basic capability is needed in various image analysis applications. The alignment process will determine the correspondence between points in the images, enabling the fusion of information in the images and the determination of scene changes. If identities of objects in one of the images are known, by registering the images, identities of objects and their locations in another image can be determined.

  • Remotely-sensed data for urban classification is very diverse in data type, acquisition time, and spatial resolution. Therefore, preprocessing is needed for input data, in which the spatial resolution must be changed by different resampling methods. However, data transformations during resampling have many effects on classification results. In this research, resampling methods were evaluated.

  • Coastal zone of Cuu Long estuary is a place through which Mekong River flows into the Eastern Sea with 8 estuaries. is the zone is formed under the influences in the interaction between river and sea. Geologically, coastal zone of Mekong delta is characterised by the predominat of clay and silt formations. These two factors makes the shoreline sensitive to exogenous processes such assedimentation and erosion.. This paper presents an application of satellite remote sensing technology to detect and analyze the spatial changes as well as quantify the shoreline change in Cuu Long estuary.
