The detection of the glomeruli is a key step in the histopathological evaluation of microscopic images of the kidneys. However, the task of automatic detection of the glomeruli poses challenges owing to the differences in their sizes and shapes in renal sections as well as the extensive variations in their intensities due to heterogeneity in immunohistochemistry staining.

The objective of this study was to identify risk factors predicting prognosis of critically ill medical patients with advanced solid tumors in the intensive care unit (ICU). We suggest broadening the criteria for ICU admission. The patients should be allowed an ICU trial consisting of unlimited ICU support, including invasive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation and renal replacement therapy.

None of the newer evidence altered the priority given to metformin cited in the previous guideline. Although the specific cardioprotective effects of metformin suggested by the UKPDS study were open to challenge from some of the very recent studies, this was not on the basis of strong outcome data. Large observational studies from Canada and Scotland111,112 appeared to support the widespread advantage of metformin over sulfonylureas, but the A Diabetes Outcome Progression Trial (ADOPT) study did not.

Interest in the use of large objects (LOBs) continues to grow, particularly for storing nontraditional datatypes such as images. The Oracle database has been able to store large objects for some time. Oracle8 added the capability to store multiple LOB col- umns in each table. Oracle Database 10g essentially removes the space limitation on large objects. Object-oriented programming Support of object structures has been included since Oracle8i to allow an object-ori- ented approach to programming.

The document crafted by Quigley and Lord contained two sections, a philosophical justification titled “General Principles,” followed by a list of prohibitions titled “Working Principles.” The first section of the original Production Code was later titled “Reasons Supporting the Code.” The document that later became known as “the Code” was a summary of the original prepared at the direction of Will H. If the consumption of counterfeit goods is consistent with other forms of routine consumption practices, it is likely that they are purchased in everyday environments and situated within routine social contexts. Such a view is supported by the questionnaire data. Rather than being integrated into a subcultural technical elite, the most regular sites of purchase of counterfeit products were more mundane.

The W3 project merges networked information retrieval and hypertext to make an easy but powerful global information system. It aims to allow information sharing within internationally dispersed groups of users, and the creation and dissemination of information by support groups. W3’s ability to provide implementation-independent access to data and documentation is ideal for a large HEP collaboration. W3 now defines the state of the art in networked information retrieval, for user support, resource discovery and collaborative work.

The recent crisis was the result of a cascade of shocks that originated in the financial sector. It makes sense, therefore, to start by asking how the structure of the banking sector affected outcomes across countries. Deposits are thought to be a relatively stable source of bank funding; economies where banks have relatively low loan-to-deposit ratios before the beginning of the crisis may therefore be relatively robust. Similarly, better capitalised banks should be better able to absorb losses while maintaining the supply of funding to support the real economy.

The patient journey from presentation to the general practitioner (GP), referral for investigation, through to diagnosis and specialist referral is a multistep process. The effective management of patients with oesophageal and gastric cancer requires a multidisciplinary approach. The investigation and management of each new patient requires access to a multidisciplinary team consisting of surgeons, gastroenterologists, endoscopists, oncologists, nurses, dietitians, radiologists, pathologists, and anaesthetists.
