  • In this study, in order to investigate the error rate of seismic analysis methods (static equivalent, spectral and time history) in intermediate structures with irregularity of hardness, 4 5-story steel samples with dual flexural frame system and bracing with different states of irregularity in height in soft SAP software has been modeled. The results showed that the equivalent static analysis method always provides conservative and somewhat uneconomical values compared to other methods, so it can be said that for static buildings, equivalent static analysis is reliable.

  • Ebook "Physics of asymmetric continuum: Extreme and fracture processes - Earthquake rotation and soliton waves" include relations not only for the displacement velocities but also for a spin motion and basic point deformations as well. We include here the axial point - formation and twist point deformation represented by the string-string and string-membrane motions. A twist vector is defined here as a vector p- pendicular to the string-string plane and representing its magnitude. It - comes an important counterpart to spin and a key to the presented theory.

  • Since 2005, 10 seismic monitoring stations have been installed in the southern part of Vietnam. These stations can detail the earthquakes in the region and adjacent areas. In the past, there was an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 in the offshore South-Central Part related to the Hon Tro eruption, the largest observed earthquake magnitude in the 20th century.

  • The 2020 Samos, M7.0 earthquake was characterized by an unusual bi-modal-type distribution of damage: limited damage in the nearfield (especially northern Samos coast) and serious localized damage in multi-story buildings in the far field (İzmir area). This pattern is not consistent with the typical distribution of isoseismal lines, and it seems not to represent an isolated effect; the 2014 Samothraki- Gökçeada M6.9 earthquake, for example, may in fact represent a parallel, though at smaller scale.

  • This paper develops a constant friction coefficient model that best represents a velocity-dependent friction model for predicting structural response of buildings isolated with concave friction bearings. To achieve this goal, the effect of friction model on structural response of three hypothetical isolated buildings with different number of stories subjected to different earthquake scenarios was numerically investigated.

  • This paper aims at highlighting the impacts of catastrophic Gorkha earthquake of April 25, 2015 on tourism sector of Nepal and is based on secondary data collected through literature narratives from published and unpublished sources. The 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck a large part of central Nepal and heavily affected the tourism business and livelihoods based on tourism. The overall economic loss due to the earthquake was equivalent to US$ 7 billion, and the disaster effect on tourism sector was estimated at 81241 million, 11.5 percent of total.

  • The current work therefore develops an extreme nonlinear numerical model that can express the seismic response of the LRB for beyond design basis earthquakes. A full-scale LRB was fabricated and dynamically tested with various input conditions, and test results confirmed that the developed numerical model better represents the behavior of the LRB over previous models. Subsequent seismic response analyses of isolated nuclear power plants using the model developed here are expected to provide more accurate results for seismic probabilistic safety assessments.

  • This study aims to rigorously examine the influences of the vertically propagating recorded strong ground motions on the trapezoidal-shaped hills in different sizes and shape ratios. In order to generalize the results of the study, one-dimensional as well as two-dimensional analyses are conducted. Then, intended results are represented in dimensionless form as a result of which amplification ratio patterns are extracted and compared with each other in terms of displacement, velocity, and acceleration.

  • In this regard, the fault surface is discretized using different elements, namely, constant discontinuous elements with various sizes, and first order contentious elements with different sizes. In order of parameterization, a bilinear interpolation technique is introduced to represent variation of source parameters within the subfault area.

  • In this paper, seismic activity characteristics in the East Sea area was analyzed by authors on the base of the unified earthquake catalog (1900-2017), including 131505 events with magnitude 3 ≤ Mw ≤ 8.4. The seismic intensity in the East Sea during the period 1900 - 2017 is characterized by the earthquake representative level Mw = 4.7. The strong earthquake activity in the East Sea area clearly shows the regularity in each stage.

  • The mitigation of earthquake-related hazards represents a key role in the modern society. The mitigation of such kind of hazards spans from detailed studies on seismicity, evaluation of site effects, and seismo-induced landslides, tsunamis as well as and the design and analysis of structures to resist such actions. The study of earthquakes ties together science, technology and expertise in infrastructure and engineering in an effort to minimize human and material losses when they inevitably occur.

  • Given the new unusual and usual event models, both adapted from the general usual event model, the HMM topology is changed with one more state. Hence the cur- rent HMM has 2 states, one representing the usual events and one representing the first detected unusual event. The Viterbi algorithm is then used to find the best possible state sequence which could have emitted the observation sequence, according to the maximum likelihood (ML) cri- terion (Figure 2, step 3). Transition points, which define new segments, are detected using the current HMM topol- ogy and parameters.

  • Many studies of seismic risk management and loss assessment (seismic risk) caused by damage or collapse of a structure, have also been conducted in recent years. In these papers, seismic risk is calculated using a dangerous curve represents the probability the generation of earthquake motion and damage curve represents a probability of damage to structures.
