Reproductive health care programme

In Nepal, Health Mother’s Groups (HMG) are women’s group-based programmes for improving maternal and child health. However, they remain underutilised with only 27% of reproductive-aged women participating in an HMG meeting in 2016. This study aimed to understand the facilitators and barriers to HMG meeting participation.

For effective extension of technologies it is utmost important that it should be based on the needs of end users. As it is the basic principle of extension that any extension programme should be based on needs and interest of the client. In the present study 300 dairy farmers were selected from five districts of Punjab i.e. Ludhiana, Barnala, Bathinda, Tarn-Taran and Hoshiarpur, to assess their information needs. The findings revealed that most essential information needs were knowledge about infectious diseases (INI=89.00), prevention and control of mastitis (INI=86.

The number of HIV infections among children has fallen significantly as a result of expanded programmes to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV, from 500 000 in 2001 to 370 000 in 2009. As a result UNAIDS has called for the virtual elimination of new HIV infections in children by 2015, a feasible goal if comprehensive programmes to prevent such transmission are expanded and integrated with maternal, newborn and child health, sexual and reproductive health, and other health services, such as HIV treatment and care programmes. Zambia continues to grapple with a high tuberculosis (TB) burden despite a long running Directly Observed Treatment Short course programme. Understanding issues that affect patient adherence to treatment programme is an important component in implementation of a successful TB control programme. We set out to investigate pulmonary TB patient’s attitudes to seek health care, assess the care received from government health care centres based on TB patients’ reports, and to seek associations with patient adherence to TB treatment programme.

Screening interventions should ideally be delivered through primary health care or as close to the community as possible. In countries where other vertical programmes for sexual and reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections (STI), oncology, and/or adolescent and youth services exist, cervical cancer prevention should be integrated into these services. Developing a new vertical programme specifically for cervical cancer prevention should be avoided.

The WKCCPP was based on collaboration among partners who brought complementary skills and resources to the project. The MOH provided the essential clinical infrastructure of health facilities, care providers, and district management. Local health management teams allocated necessary funds for supplies. MYWO focused its efforts on developing links with the community through a network of MYWO community health workers (CHWs) who did both group and individual outreach. KECANSA assisted primarily by providing oncology expertise for training and materials development.

In some countries, adolescents are less likely than adults to obtain skilled care before, during and after childbirth. 8,9 WHO’s recommendations for increasing the use of skilled antenatal, childbirth and postpartum care are informed by one graded study, one ungraded study, existing WHO guidelines and the collective experience and judgment of a panel of experts. The studies were conducted in Chile and India. One intervention was a home visit programme for adolescent mothers. Another was a cash transfer scheme contingent upon health facility births.

Starting contraception immediately, rather than waiting for the next menses, may theoretically reduce the time a woman is at risk of pregnancy; prevent her forgetting information on correct use of the method; prevent waning enthusiasm for the method and use of a less reliable alternative method; avoid patient costs and barriers to returning for contraception (e.g. transport, time, childcare) and reduce health care costs by reducing the number of appointments. Women who have taken EC or who have irregular cycles may have an even longer wait for their next menses.
