Reproductive phase of rice

The inductive response of H2O2 scavenging enzymes was studied in leaves of twenty rice cultivars when the plants were exposed to elevated temperature 55 days after transplanting (DAT). High temperature stress preferentially enhance the activities of ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and non-specific oxidase (POX), catalase (CAT) activity decreased with continuous exposure to heat stress although it was higher than control upto 15 days of stress (DAS) treatment.

The present study was carried out in sixteen genotypes having different aptitude for tolerance to stress. Drought stress was imposed at early reproductive phase of growth. Despites of reduction in plant height and number of tillers, genotypes have shown least reduction in the grain yield under drought stress.

Source and sink activity measured after anthesis in six poplar rice cultivars. The experiment was laid in randomized block design with six cultivars MTU-1001, MTU1010, MTU-7029, BPT-2231, BPT-3291 and BPT-5204 replicated four times. After anthesis, top three leaves separately, top three internodes collectively, panicle axis and grain of main culm were sampled at seven day interval and analysed for biochemical parameters that serve remobilization of nutrients. During the initial and later halves of the sampling, there was a shift in higher amylase activity from third to flag leaves.

Photoperiod influences several aspects of plant growth. The overall growth and development of plants and flowering are dependent on sunlight. The transition from vegetative to reproductive phase (flowering) is one of the most important decisions a plant has to take in order to guarantee the success of its offspring.
