  • An investigation was carried out for evaluating the table grape genotypes against incidence of mites in Sector No. 70, UHS, Bagalkot, Karnataka after fore pruning (October) 2016 at different phenological stages. Results revealed that among 12 grape genotypes studied, significantly lowest mites population was recorded in Red Globe (T12) (8.63 mites/sq. inch of leaf) after 115 DAP. Significantly the highest population of mites was recorded in Fantasy Seedless (T10) (14.48 mites/sq. inch of leaf) after 115 DAP. Correlation studies revealed that the incidence of mites per sq.

  • Field trial was conducted for two consecutive years during kharif 2017 and 2018 at farmer`s field, Kadarmandalagi by using randomized block design (RBD). During kharif 2017, among the 20 genotypes screened indicated that lowest mean population of yellow mite and highest mean leaf hair density and trichome length were recorded in Chaitanya (MRC-7377) (0.29 yellow mite/ leaf) followed by Soumya (SRCH-55) and were superior to all the genotypes. While highest mean yellow mite population and least mean leaf hair density and trichome length were observed in Super fibre (KDCHB-407) (2.

  • Studies were conducted on the combining ability and relative resistance of rice hybrids against panicle mite (Steneotarsonemus spinki) during Kharif, 2017. Six cytoplasmic male sterile lines were crossed to seven testers in Line X Tester mating design to produce 42 hybrids. The parents and hybrids along with two checks were evaluated. The analysis of variance for combining ability showed that mean sum of square due to lines, testers and the interaction between lines and testers was significant for most of the characters under study.

  • Phytophagus mites are gaining importance at present since their incidence is high. Farmers rely only on acaricides and other chemical pesticides for the management of these mites results in destruction of natural enemies, pesticide resistance and pesticide residues in crops, environment pollution etc. Hence, there is a need to find alternate to manage the phytophagous mites.
