Research on the morphological characteristics, agronomics, pre-harvest germination resistance, and genetic diversity of some popular rice varieties grown in Binh Dinh province is essential in assessing material resources for selecting and developing new rice varieties that can adapt to climate change. The results show that there is one extra short-day variety, five short-day varieties, and three medium-day varieties.

The yield potential as well as quality of chilli is affected by a number of biotic and abiotic stresses. The genetic improvement of this crop, especially for characters like resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses using conventional breeding methods are laborious, time taking and also needs a large experimental area. So, an attempt was made to study callus induction in chilli genotypes by using hypocotyls as explant to complement conventional breeding and expedite capsicum improvement.

Studies were conducted on the performance and morphological characterization of okra for yield and YVMV disease. None of the genotypes found complete free from YVMV infection. However, on scoring test few of them got resistant mark for YVMV like IIHR 129, IIHR-123, and IIHR 120. The characters like plant height, plant canopy, fruit yield per plant, PDI and CI have found wide variation. The character’s association revealed that the association of traits is not only due to genes but also due to the favorable impact of environment.

The present study was carried out to screen the improved lines with the foreground markers of Xa21, xa13, xa5, Xa33 and Xa38 and the confirmed plants were evaluated for phenotypic resistance against the local isolate of BB under the controlled conditions. Further, the lines harboring BB resistance genes were evaluated for key-morphological traits to identify the superior genotypes.

The present experiment was conducted to study correlation for yield and yield contributing characters in BC1F1 generation derived from three crosses of groundnut viz., CO 7 × GPBD 4, TMV 2 × GPBD 4 and TMV (Gn) 13 × GPBD 4. Correlation analysis indicated that kernel yield per plant was significant and positively associated with number of pods per plant, hundred pod weight, hundred kernel weight, shell weight, shelling out-turn and pod yield per plant for all the three crosses.

Hybrids in tomato are of great practical importance nowadays owing to their early and high yields in addition to the improved disease resistance and quality characters. Nine parental lines were crossed to obtain 18 F1 hybrids, which were evaluated along with their parents and 2 commercial check hybrids to know their performance under the conditions of Bengaluru, which is the major tomato production hub of India.

Studies on the genetic basis for resistance to jassid (Amrasca biguttula biguttula) was done in F2 segregating generation of one promising cross of interspecific cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L. X Gossypium barbadense L.) in the year 2015-16. The cross FQT-37 X SB-YF-425 segregated in the ratio of 13:3 for susceptibility and resistant. In the case of resistant type, all the plants were in grade II, implying moderate resistance. This gene action is called as inhibitory gene action.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of salinity on germination and emergence of chilli cultivars and to investigate the ability for genetic salt tolerance during germination and seedling growth. Although some of the chilli genotypes have salinity tolerance to some extent, more attention is required to assess the cultivars for salinity resistance/tolerance so as to screen them and select best types suitable to cultivate under areas prone to soil salinity.

This article presents a study of the bacteria bioremediation characters and their heavy metal and antibiotic tolerance from the petroleum contaminated soil located in industrialized areas of Chhattisgarh, India. Soil sediments were characterized by FTIR for the presence of aromatic compounds and further the heterotrophic and fuel degrader counts was estimated. The strains characterized were predominantly from the Bacillus species which showed mixed resistance patterns against antibiotics and heavy metals.

An experiment was framed to study the variability, nature of gene action and number of genes controlling the characters in bacterial blight and blast resistance genes introgressed three backcross population in rice. Mean variation was high for number of grains and plant height for all the crosses. The characters like plant height, number of productive tillers and number of grains were showed complementary gene interaction for all back cross population. While for thousand grain weight and single plant yield were explained complementary gene interactions in two backcross populations.

The present investigation was assessed using 235 different F2 individuals, their parents and F1 for characters like plant height, moisture, phenol and chlorophyll. These characters are most important for identification of disease effect and characterization for resistance in plants or genotype. Here, in the present study F2 population was developed from the cross between AT-3 (Solanum lycopersicum L) and IIHR-2101 (Solanum habrochaites L.). Then characters which are mentioned above were studied.

Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) is the major constraint for the production of chickpea as it feeds on the pods causing direct economic damage to the farmers. A single H. armigera larva feeds 30-40 pods in its life time. It is polyphagous and multivoltine pest which is difficult to control. Farmers generally rely on the insecticides but this pest was reported to show resistance to most of the insecticides used against it. Host plant resistance for managing this pest is best as it is compatible with other pest management practices.

Okra genotypes were evaluated for their genetic variability, character associationships and genetic divergence among fifteen quantitative traits by adopting Randomized Block Design. Significant variation were observed for all the traits except incidence of YVMV at 30 DAS indicating the vast scope for selection. Among the genotypes, 2014\OKYVRES-5 and 2014\OKYVRES-11 (0.00 to 1.39%) was identified as most resistant line with low incidence of YVMV disease at all the stages of crop growth.
