Respiratory infections of piglets

Enterobacter hormaechei is commonly considered a causative pathogen for nosocomial infections and it does not usually cause diseases in animals. However, researchers have recently dissociated the pathogenic Enterobacter hormaechei from foxes and piglets. Here, the Enterobacter hormaechei was first found to be associated with respiratory disease in unweaned calves in China.

The present study envisaged better understanding of isolation, identification and pathomorphology of S. choleraesuis in respiratory infections of piglets which will be helpful in adopting proper therapeutic modalities and initiating better control measures.

The objective of this study was to investigate the profiles of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (MH) infection at different ages of pig in a sow – finishing herd using serological and molecular methods. A total of 30 study piglets were born from non-vaccinated sows with MH. They were injected one-dose of inactivated MH vaccine at the 10th week.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is one of the most significant swine diseases worldwide. Despite its relevance, serum biomarkers associated with early-onset viral infection, when clinical signs are not detectable and the disease is characterized by a weak anti-viral response and persistent infection, have not yet been identified. Surface-enhanced laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF MS) is a reproducible, accurate, and simple method for the identification of biomarker proteins related to disease in serum.
