The objectives of this study are to (i) map the diversity of wetlands in the Ogou River basin, and (ii) analyze the wetland habitat fragmentation at the landscape level in the study area. First, three images from Landsat 8 of 2017 and 2018 were used for wetland mapping in ENVI 4.7 software. The unsupervised classification ISODATA were used after a color composition based on neochannels.

The Monterey Bay Region benefits from science-based adaptation planning that places value on a healthy social-ecological ecosystem. We co-developed a methodological engagement framework to support an iterative place-based process among natural resource managers, the planning community, and the community of technical experts (e.g., economists, scientists, lawyers). In collaboration with local decision makers, we are evaluating the effects of adaptation strategies on ecosystem services provided by natural dune and wetland systems to inform decision making at the local government level.

In 2005, a 550 -acre tract of agricultural land containing two small streams near La Grande, Oregon was registered in the U.S. Federal Wetlands Reserve Program. This designation was part of a plan to reclaim and restore the wetland to its natural state. Initial efforts at the End Creek Restoration Project restored both End Creek and South Fork Willow Creek to a natural course through rechanneling, and several plantings had restored some of the native flora.

The EPA’s ecosystem protection programs encompass a wide range of approaches that address specific at-risk regional areas and larger categories of threatened systems, such as urban waters, estuaries, and wetlands. Locally generated pollution, combined with pollution carried by rivers and streams and through air deposition, can accumulate in these ecosystems and degrade them over time. The EPA and its federal partners along with states, tribes, municipalities, and private parties, will continue efforts to restore the integrity of the imperiled waters of the United States.

This system formed over thousands of years as a major wetland represented by the Kissimmee River vegetation, the Florida Everglades, the Big Cypress Swamp, and the coastal mangroves and glades (Mitsch and Gosselink, 1993). The Florida Everglades represent the only such system in the Northern Hemisphere.
