Returns of paddy crop

A field experiment was conducted during rabi, 2015-16 and 2016-17 in the farmers field at Gajularega village of Vizianagaram district to know the production potential of finger millet under rice fallow conditions. First year finger millet seed was broadcasted in standing crop of paddy and left the crop without undergoing thinning and gap filling or any intercultural operations.

Field experiments were conducted at farmer’s field by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mayurbhanj, Shyamakhunta of Odisha to evaluate the irrigation water management practices on yield of rice on growth, yield and economics of transplanted rice during Rabi 2013-14 and 2014-15.

In srikakulam district of andhra pradesh, paddy is major important crop during kharif cultivated in an area of 2,01,148 ha out of total cropped area of 2,66,433 ha with productivity of 4587 kg/ha. In the district, traditional method of paddy cultivation, adoption of more seed rate, late transplanting with over aged seedlings, close spacing coupled with scarcity of labour and escalation in labor wages, reduction in labor efficiency are leading to lower yields and low net returns, besides that farmers are distressed to cultivate paddy.

Urdbean or black gram is one of the most important cultivated pulse crops of the ‘Vigna’ group. Seeing to the importance as a major pulse crop a research study was carried out on sample farms to work out the costs and profitability of urdbean. A multi-stage random sampling technique was adopted for data collection; the study was conducted in Lailunga block of Raigarh district (C.G.), sample of 3 villages of this block was selected randomly. A sample of 60 farmers in the ratio of 20:20:20 was selected randomly. The farmers were classified into three groups viz., small (4.0 hectares) farms.

A field experiment was carried out at Agricultural Research Station, Kota, Rajasthan during rainy (Kharif) season of 2016 and 2017, to evaluate bio efficacy of bentazone against major weeds of rice grown in direct seeded condition of south eastern Rajasthan. Treatments included post emergence application of bentazone @ 0.6 to 1.6 kg a.i/ha, 2,4 D@ 0.38 kga.i/ha, hand weeding twice (20 and 40 DAS) and weedy check, was laid out in randomized block design with three replications. The pooled data of two years revealed that application of bentazone @ 1.2 kg a.

Economics of paddy relay sunhemp system was studied in comparison with economics of paddy-fallow system. Farmers of the Nacharam (V), Khammam (D), Telangana state are generally keeping the land fallow after harvesting kharif paddy due to water scarcity resulting in no income during rabi. As an alternative to the paddy-fallow system, farmers of the Nacharam (V), Khammam (D), Telangana state were educated by the scientists of KVK, Wyra under “National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA)” project to grow sunhemp as a relay crop after kharif paddy i.e., paddy-sunhemp system.

The present article analyses the nature of crop diversification in terms of the changes in cropping pattern with respect to acreage and production distribution. From both the aspects of area and production it is observed that over the time span of three decades the cropping pattern in West Bengal is increasingly dominated by boro paddy, oilseeds (including, rapeseed and mustard) and potato. Pulses, as a whole, have lost both in terms of acreage and production in West Bengal.

Evaluation of different chickpea sowing technologies under paddy residue conditions was conducted in a harvested paddy field. Field of paddy was harvested with combine. Chickpea variety (JG-130) was sown with different farm machines in four treatments viz., T1: Happy seeder, T2: Zero till seed cum fertilizer drill, T3: Conventional seed cum fertilizer drill and T4: Raised bed seed cum fertilizer drill in harvested R-1 variety of paddy fields. In T1, all the paddy straw was remained in the field itself and spreaded uniformly.

Nepalese hill agriculture is a subsistence type of farming system. Development of agriculture follows different trajectories as an outcome of both biophysical and cultural factors for production while culture determines the strategy and the extent of the technological inputs. The main objective of this study is to assess agricultural practice and calculate cost and benefit of crop production in the study area. This study is based on case study of Bhojpur VDC of Eastern hill of Nepal. Data were collected from household survey, key informant interview and field observation.
