Gut microbial determinants of clinically important improvement in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Rapid advances in the past decade have shown that dysbiosis of the gut microbiome is a key hallmark of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Yet, the relationship between the gut microbiome and clinical improvement in RA disease activity remains unclear.

Synovial fibroblasts (SFs) are specialized cells of the synovium that provide nutrients and lubricants for the proper function of diarthrodial joints. Recent evidence appreciates the contribution of SF heterogeneity in arthritic pathologies. However, the normal SF profiles and the molecular networks that govern the transition from homeostatic to arthritic SF heterogeneity remain poorly defined.

Giant cell arteritis has a wide variety of clinical symptoms, one of them being cervical radiculopathy, which mainly involves the C5 nerve root. If the patient does not develop typical clinical symptoms of giant cell arteritis but has C5 radiculopathy, it may be misdiagnosed as polymyalgia rheumatica or elderly-onset rheumatoid arthritis due to old age, high serum infammatory markers, and difficulty in raising both upper limbs.

Other iatrogenic immunodeficiency-associated (OIIA) T- and natural killer (NK)-cell lymphoproliferative disorders (TNK-LPDs) are rare in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We investigated the clinicopathological characteristics, Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) infection, genetic findings, therapeutic response, and prognostic factors in 21 RA patients with OIIA TNK-LPDs and compared these with those of 39 with OIIA B-cell LPDs (B-LPDs) and 22 with non-OIIA B-LPDs.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints, resulting in destruction and deformation of bones and cartilage. This study describes hematological characteristics and the relationship of RPR and HPR indices with inflammation in patients with RA.

Lymphoproliferative disorders (LPDs) occur frequently in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) under methotrexate treatment. Some LPDs spontaneously regressed after methotrexate discontinuation, but classic Hodgkin lymphoma (CHL)-type LPDs frequently relapse, and chemotherapy is usually required for the treatment. CHL usually spreads in contiguous lymph nodes and then infiltrates in organs at an advanced stage.

Takayasu arteritis (TAK) is a rare vasculitis that often affects young women of childbearing age, and its management during pregnancy poses unique challenges. Limited data exist regarding the safety and efficacy of tocilizumab (TCZ), an interleukin-6 receptor antagonist, in the treatment of TAK during pregnancy.

Felty syndrome is defined by three conditions: neutropenia, rheumatoid arthritis, and splenomegaly. Neutropenia associated with pancytopenia may further affect the dental condition of a patient. Periodontal treatment and surgery in patients with Felty syndrome necessitates cooperation with a hematologist.

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are at increased risk of falls and fractures. Sarcopenia occurs more frequently in RA patients due to the inflammatory processes. Early diagnosis and prevention programmes are essential to avoid serious complications. The present study aims to identify risk factors for falls related to sarcopenia and physical performance.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS) are associated with osteoporosis. There have not been many peripheral quantitative computed tomography (QCT) studies in patients receiving biologics. We assessed volumetric and areal bone mineral density (BMD) by forearm QCT and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), respectively in addition to laboratory biomarkers in these arthritides.

This study aims to describe the association between sharp score and clinical indexes, bone metabolism indexes, Disease Activity Score (DAS28) and sociodemographic factors in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Data were collected from the HIS (hospital information system), a national inpatient database in China, with information on the patients hospitalized during the period from 2012 to 2019. The association between sharp score and effective factors were identifed using multinomial logistic regression and association rule mining (ARM).

Biologic drugs are expensive treatments used in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Switching among them is common practice in patients who have had an inadequate response or intolerable adverse events. The National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) UK, which aims to curtail postcode prescribing, has provided guidance on the sequential prescription of these drugs.

The calcium-binding protein S100A12 correlates with measures of disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The protein reflects neutrophil activation and the present objective was to explore in a pilot study the associations between S100A12 and other inflammatory markers, clinical assessments as well as degree of synovitis detected by a comprehensive ultrasonography (US) examination in RA patients during biologic treatment.
