Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn (Teleomorph: Thanatephorus cucumeris) is a soil borne, polyphagous, necrotrophic plant pathogenic fungus with a wide host range. It is causing sheath blight disease on a wide range of Graminae plant hosts and causes considerable losses in yield. It incites banded sheath blight disease in small millets, with its characteristic copper brown band symptoms. Fifty three isolates of Rhizoctonia solani were obtained from four different small millets showing typical symptoms of the disease.

In vitro evaluation of twelve phytoextracts (aqueous and methanolic extract) of locally available plants having antimicrobial properties were done against Rhizoctonia solani, Kuhn by sequentially highering the concentration of the extracts i.e. at 1%,2.5%, 5% and 10%. The poisoned food technique employed for the purpose.

Charcoal rot and Aerial alight caused by Macrophomina phaseolina (Tassi) Goid and Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn, respectively are major biotic challenges across the country in soybean cultivation. The problem of disease can be overcome nicely by growing resistant variety and using integrated disease management practices. In this concern, for the identification of resistant source, total sixty genotypes including five check varieties namely Shivalik, JS 335, JS 95-60, JS 93-05 and NRC 7 were evaluated under high disease pressure during kharif 2019.

Study carried out of this disease over a period of time revealed that Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn affects the yield severely whenever it occurs at any stage of the crop. In spite chemical measures like copper oxy chloride is recommended based on the previous studies on Rhizoctonia spp., the new fungicides need to be evaluated to find out the effective and economic fungitoxicants with which the disease can be controlled. Keeping in mind the seriousness of the disease, it was planned to elucidate the biocontrol and fungicidal capacity as soil and seed treatment against the pathogen, R.

To manage the disease an investigation at the Department of Plant Pathology, SHIATS-DU, Allahabad was carried out to evaluate the effect of bio-agents viz. Trichoderma viride @ 2%, Pseudomonas fluorescens @ 2%, T. harzianum @ 2%, botanical viz. neem leaf extract @ 5%, neem oil @ 5% and fungicide viz. carbendazim @ 0.2% against R. solani under invitro condition by dual culture and poisoned food technique. All the bioagents and botanical were evaluated singly. All the treatments significantly inhibited the mycelial growth of R. solani as compared to untreated check.

In the present study, all the three selected varieties of chilli viz. G-4, NP-46 and Faridabad were susceptible to dry root-rot caused by Rhizoctonia solani. The different modes of application of Trichoderma harzianum were found effective to manage the dry root rot but most effective was found with dry seed treatment.

Four fungicides and two bioagents of different groups evaluated for seed treatmentagainst Rhizoctonia solani, Carbendazim + Mancozeb (88.54%), Carbendazim (71.49%), were proved to be most effective in inhibiting the growth of the fungus. Among the bio-agents screened, Trichoderma viride (50.23%) was most effective in restricting the growth of Rhizoctonia solani where as Metalaxy (65.91%) was proved least effective.

Variability in 20 isolates of Rhizoctonia solani Kühn [Teleomorph: Thanatephorus cucumeris (Frank) Donk] causing sheath blight of rice and weeds, was observed by RAPD and ISSR DNA analysis in conjunction with morphology and pathogenicity studies. Studies on morphological characterization of R. solani isolates showed that isolates were highly variable in mycelial growth, color and sclerotial parameters.

Among the carbon sources, glucose supported highest weight of dried mycelium and maximum number of sclerotia formation followed by sucrose and maltose. The lactose supported least growth and also inhibitory for sclerotia formation. Out of four nitrogen sources, calcium nitrate supported highest weight of dried mycelium and maximum number of sclerotia followed by alanine. Urea exhibited inhibitory effect for sclerotia formation. In the vitamins, Thiamine supported highest weight of dried mycelium and maximum number of sclerotia followed by yeast extract.

Silver nano particles were synthesized using two potential isolates of Trichoderma, Psudomonas fluorescens and one isolate of pathogen Rhizoctonia solani cell free culture filtrates incubated at different days 0, 5, 10 and 15. The present investigation revealed that bionano preparations irrespective of the isolate source used, i.e., Trichoderma, P. fluorescens or R. solani were found better in decreasing the sheath blight incidence in vitro though variation existed in terms of quantum of disease reduction.

been reported, of these, 65 are known to occur in India (Saxena, 2002). Banded leaf and sheath blight (BLSB) of maize is one of the most widespread and destructive disease of maize in Southeast Asian countries. The disease was first described and reported from Sri Lanka (Bertus, 1927) as sclerotial disease of maize caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn.
