  • Rhizome rot or tip over disease of banana has been occurring in serious form and affecting the yield wherever bananas are being cultivated. The morphological characteristics of the eighteen isolates of the bacterium revealed that cells were rod shaped, occurred singly, Gram negative and peritrichously flagellated. The pathogen was identified on the basis of cultural, morphological and biochemical characteristics and its pathogenicity in banana was proved using Koch‟s postulates.

  • The present study was conducted to evaluate bacterial endophytes against Pythium spp. causing soft rot of ginger. Water soaked lesions at the emerging base and the collar region was the typical symptoms observed on infected plants. Sprout appeared pale yellowish and withering off of plant was seen and such rhizomes were rotten and emitted foul smell in which diseased plants came off with a gentle pull.

  • The starch obtained from the tikhur rhizomes is highly nutritious and easily digestible. In this paper describe the variation of physicochemical properties on tikhur powder extracted from rhizome by two different methods such as laboratory grinder and starch extraction machine. Results shows that the values of physicochemical properties slightly differ in protein and ash but no more significant variation finds. The data of water solubility index and swelling powers of tikhur powder was increased with increasing temperature range from50–100°C.

  • Banana (Musa paradisiaca L.) as famous tropical fruit around the world. The one important and destructive disease of banana is Fusarium wilt caused Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense (Foc). Foc as soil-borne pathogens and movement of pathogen through the rhizome and water, capable survive in waste crops at the field. The purpose research is to study physiological character of Bacillus sp. such as : ability of bacteria produced IAA (Indole Acetic Acid), gibberelin (GA3), ability phosphate solubilizing and produce salicylic acid as biological control against Foc.

  • A batch type ginger washing-cum-peeling machine was developed and investigated for its use in the production line of bleached dry ginger. The machine used 2 hard nylon brush rollers that rotated at 200 rpm in opposite direction. The rhizomes got lifted and tumbled on the rollers, and the application of jets of water removed the soil and other foreign material from the surface of rhizomes and about 59% of the total peels. Output capacity of the machine was 13.86 kg/h with about 2% loss of edible material.

  • This meant that the plants were doing little in the beginning to clean the inflow. In the beginning it was not known if the plants would survive such a harsh environment. But after five months the plants have proven that they are a plant well designed for this environment. Some benefits about these plants are that they produce no seed, have no rhizomes, and can only reproduce by physically moving a piece of the plant. At five months, the plants are three feet in height and the root systems are now reaching the bottom of...
