Rice cultivars of Manipur

Nitrogen use efficiency is considered as one of the most yield limiting factor for the rice production in all the rice growing regions of the world. This experiment was conducted to investigate the variation in nitrogen use efficiency of rice cultivars, the selection of rice cultivars with high nitrogen use efficiency, and the relationships of nitrogen use efficiency with the growth characteristics under non-limiting conditions of factors like water, fertilizer inputs.

Stem rot of rice (Oryza sativae L.) caused by Sclerotium oryzae Catt. is found to occur frequently in Manipur infecting all cultivated lowland rice cultivars and become a major concern in rice production. Local strains of Pseudomanas fluorescens and Trichoderma collected from rice fields of Imphal East and Imphal West districts of Manipur were screened for their ability to control S. oryzae and production of different biocontrol mechanisms under laboratory conditions. An investigation was carried out to know the extent of genetic variability present in ten Chakhao rice (scented rice) of Manipur during kharif 2017. Ten Chakhao landraces namely Wairi chakhao, Khurkhul chakhao, Khunou chakhao, Chakhao sempak, Pong chakhao, Chetemo, Chakhao angangbi, Heimang chakhao and two Chakhao poireiton samples (from different locations) were taken for the experiment.
