The present investigation was under taken during rabi 2014-15 under rice fallow condition at District Seed Farm Kalyani, BCKV, W.B. Fifteen elite genotypes of chickpea (3 kabuli and 12 desi) were taken to evaluate and select the better yielding genotype(s) based on the nodulation behavior as well as root morphology, suitable for new alluvial zone of West Bengal and also to estimate the correlation among different underground and above ground agromorphic traits including yield.

A field experiment was conducted during rabi, 2015-16 and 2016-17 in the farmers field at Gajularega village of Vizianagaram district to know the production potential of finger millet under rice fallow conditions. First year finger millet seed was broadcasted in standing crop of paddy and left the crop without undergoing thinning and gap filling or any intercultural operations.

In India, monocropping is a major drawback. This is also a holding back situation for low yielding states like Assam where monocropping accounts for approximately 46% of total cultivated rice area. This rice fallow can effectively and efficiently be utilized for increasing farm income through utera cropping. In order to find the thrust area of linseed under rice utera condition, a study was conducted in large blocks in a participatory mode in farmers’ field of Nagaon district of Assam in the year 2016-17 and 2017-18 with 103 numbers of demonstrations in 40 ha of land.

The present investigation was carried out to identify maize hybrids suitable under rice fallow situation since rice fallow maize is gaining more popularity among the farming community in recent years. The results obtained in the present investigation are quite encouraging as the hybrids excelled in their performance under rice fallow condition and may offer a vast scope for breeders to work on the genetic studies under such situation.

A field study was conducted to study the effect of sulphydryl bio-regulator like thiourea through foliar application on growth, yield and profitability of lentil in rice fallows. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design and replicated thrice with thirteen treatments including water spray (control), 2% urea, 500ppm and 1000ppm thiourea at different stages of crop growth.

A field experiment entitled “Performance of Sorghum hybrids under different nitrogen levels in rice-fallow conditions of North Coastal A.P.” was conducted at Agricultural College Farm, Naira in sandy loam soil during rabi 2016-17. The treatments comprised of combination of four sorghum hybrids and four nitrogen levels laid out in Split plot design with three replications. Sorghum hybrid CSH 25 and application of 120 kg ha-1 recorded the highest growth parameters as well as leaf area index.

Soil organic matter content and several fractions of soil organic carbon are considered to be sensitive indicator of soil health who on several conditions like cropping choice and management practices. The presence of different soil organic C pool in rice cultivating soils are well documented but thoroughly studied information on relation between soil C status and different rice based cropping managements are not available.

About 30% (11.7 mha) of the area under rice production during kharif season in India remain fallow in the subsequent rabi due to number of biotic, abiotic and socioeconomic constrains. . In Bhagalpur district of Bihar approximately 39.89 per cent of the area remains fallow after kharif rice cultivation. The present study was conducted in Bhagalpur district of Bihar with the objective to study the socio-economic conditions of farmers in rice fallow area. Simple random sampling method was used to select village, block and respondents.
