Right flank laparotomy

A 5 Year old bullock presented with the history of horn gore trauma on right flank region and not passed dung since last 5 days. On palpation intestinal loops were palpable like clumsy feel on right flank just beneath skin. With this we diagnosed tentatively the case as traumatic hernia. On exploration of right flank laparotomy confirmed muscle rupture and mild peritonitis. The rent was supported by outlay tethering of polypropylene mesh size 6”× 8”. The muscle and skin closed with simple interrupted pattern suture pattern.

Gut-tie is a rare clinical entity and it often presents a diagnostic challenge which may result in life-threatening consequences. This case report describes diagnosis and successful surgical management of gut-tie in a crossbred cow. A 3.5 year old HF crossbred cow weighing 412 kg was presented with a history of anorexia and impaction from 7 days. There was history of pain and loss of defecation from 4 days. Animal was 8 month pregnant. Cow had tachycardia (120/min) and tachypnea (28/min) with rumen hypermotility (4/2 min).

A 7 years old Kankrej bullock was admitted with the history of off-feed and not passing faeces since last one week with normal physiological parameter except slight increase in heart rate. Blood tinged mucus and palpable sausage shaped hard mass near pelvic brim was revelled by per rectal examination confirmed as intussusception. This was corrected by anastomosis of colon with the use of partially ripened banana for patency of intestine after right flank laparotomy.
