Effect of potassium (K) application through leaves (LA) or roots (RA) was studied in tobacco plants grown under K deficiency and drought stress conditions. Application of K was effective in improving the shoot growth only under drought conditions, whereas root biomass and length responded under both watering regimes.

The potential contribution of two phytogenic feed additives compared with vitamin E to act as growth promoters was investigated. A total of 150, five weeks, V-line rabbits were fed basal diet supplemented with 150 mg/kg vitamin E (VE), 150 or 300 mg/kg propolis (LP or HP), 150 or 300 mg/kg moringa roots (LM or HM) or not (Con, no additives) for five weeks.

Ferulic acid (FA; 3-methoxy-4-hydroxycinnamic acid) can eliminate stress-induced damage because of its ability to induce antioxidant activity under stress. The aim of this study was to identify the effects of FA on water status, antioxidant system, and lipid peroxidation in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) roots exposed to boron (B) stress. Plants were grown in hydroponic culture containing the combination or alone form of 25–75 μM FA and 4–8 mM B. Stress significantly decreased growth (RGR), water content (RWC), proline content (Pro), and osmotic potential (YP).

Soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill) is an important leguminous crop contain huge amount of protein and oil. Among the fungal diseases of soybean, collar rot caused by Sclerotium rolfsii and charcoal rot caused by Corynespora cassiicola are the economically important diseases which attack on root, stem and foliate parts of the plants.

The study revealed that all the biological agents were found to have potential to increase significant plant growth in terms of number of leaves and plant biomass. The maximum number of leaves per plant was recorded in P. chlamydosporia treated plants which was significantly different from untreated control followed by AM fungi and P. lilacinus. The maximum plant biomass (46%) was recorded in P. chlamydosporia and it was on par with AM fungi.

This study aims to find antagonistic bacteria that are able to provide the highest resistance to the growth of pathogenic Xoo bacteria in rice plants. Antagonistic bacteria were isolated from the leaves and roots of rice plants through surface sterilization and serial dilution. Obtained 53 bacterial isolates consisting of 20 bacterial isolates from leaves and 33 bacterial isolates from roots tested hypersensitive to tobacco plants for filtering potential non-pathogenic bacteria.

The cytokinin production and transport from root to leaves is hindered under water stress causing leaf senescence due to the synthesis of hydrolytic enzymes. A part of stress effect may be linked to the regulation of osmotic solutes and maintenance of turgidity for stomatal conductance, photosynthesis and protein synthesis accompanied with reduced peroxidation of chloroplast and mitochondrial membranes in pearl millet under kinetin and cycocel treatments.

Of late, rice root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne graminicola has emerged as a major threat throughout the world due to its adoptable nature, broad host range and ability of causing potential yield loss. The losses caused by M. graminicola may vary from 16-80 %. The daignostic symptoms of root knot disease of rice are, stunted growth, yellowing, and gall formation on the roots of rice plants. The degree of symptom manifestation depends on several factors, viz., time of infection, age of the plants and load of inoculums.

The present study was undertaken to isolate endophytic and rhizospheric actinomycetes from Gladilous and to evaluate their plant growth promoting traits. Out of 90 isolates, 40 were from rhizospheric soil and 50 from roots of Gladiolus plants. Sixteen isolates from rhizospheric and 14 from endophytic were observed to produce IAA ranged from 4.3-79.9 µg/ml. Eighteen (20%) isolates were observed to solubilize phosphate in the range of 6.1- 64.5mg/100ml.

The production potential of root vegetables depends on many factors, amongst them; plant growth regulators appreciably influence the growth, yield and quality of produce. They play an important role in producing high value root vegetables and increasing the yield. They promote root growth, increase the number of flowers, fruit size and induce early and uniform fruit ripening. Foliar application of plant growth regulators is reported to improve tuber yield, dry matter and quality characters like starch, total sugars and beta carotene content.

Replant disease is a major problem of apple orchards, which is a main cash crop in TransHimalayan region. The cause of this replant problem includes both biotic and abiotic factors, such as low nutrients, phytotoxins, actinomycetes, fungal complexes and nematodes. Fungi and oomycetes belonging to the well-known root rot complex are important factor of replant problems in apple.

Drip irrigation has the greatest potential for the efficient use of water and fertilizers. The limited area of wetting under trickle irrigation reduces the active root zone and also the foraging area of plants to draw water and nutrients from the soil. For minimizing the cost of irrigation and fertilizers, adoption of drip irrigation with fertigation is essential which will maximize the nutrient uptake, while using minimum amount of water and fertilizer.
