  • The root lesion nematode Pratylenchus penetrans is a migratory plant-parasitic nematode responsible for economically important losses in a wide number of crops. Despite the importance of P. penetrans, the molecular mechanisms employed by this nematode to promote virulence remain largely unknown.

  • The nematode Pratylenchus neglectus has a wide host range and is able to feed on the root systems of cereals, oilseeds, grain and pasture legumes. Under the Mediterranean low rainfall environments of Australia, annual Medicago pasture legumes are used in rotation with cereals to fix atmospheric nitrogen and improve soil parameters.

  • Root Lesion Nematode (RLN; Pratylenchus thornei Sher and Allen) is a threat to chickpea production, either alone or in presence of Rhizoctonia bataticola. The effects of inoculation of 22 chickpea genotypes with P. thornei alone or with joint inoculation with R. bataticola were investigated in a pot experiment. Culture of P. thornei was developed under aseptic conditions on chickpea (JG 62). The populations developed on roots were inoculated @ 1000 P. thornei/genotype with four treatments: Nematode alone, Nematode + DRR fungus, DRR alone and untreated. Treatments were replicated five times.

  • Root lesion nematode; Pratylenchus thornei (Sher and Allen) is a migratory endoparasite commonly fed and reproduced in the cortical tissue of the host. Necrotic lesions are developed when they commonly severe infesting the host roots. To determine the their vertical distribution of in chickpea – maize crop rotation, the soil and root samples were collected from different levels of soil depth during Rabi-2016 and Kharif-2017. The size of sample was 1 kg/depth and replicated thrice. The samples were processed with Whitehead tray extraction method and P. thornei populations were examined.

  • In this study, screening of 15 Phaseolus vulgaris cultivars and genotypes (Zülbiye, Kınalı, Perla, Kwintus, Özayşe, Tokat Sırık, Musica, Şelale, Nadide, Gina, Serra, Karabağ, Funda, and Lepus) and 1 Pisum sativum cultivar (Araka) for host suitability to 4 rootlesion nematodes, Pratylenchus thornei, P. crenatus, P. neglectus, and P. penetrans, was carried out in 2010 and 2011 under controlled conditions.

  • Root lesion nematodes (RLNs) are an economically important pest due to their wide host range in the global cropping system. In Turkey, they have been found in every region and attack almost all crops (especially wheat), causing significant damage. This study investigated the occurrence and population dynamics of the root lesion nematode species Pratylenchus thornei on the winter wheat cultivar ‘Bayraktar’ under field conditions in Bolu Province.
