Bồng Nga truật, or Fingerroot, (Boesenbergia rotunda (L.) Mansf syn. Boesenbergia pandurata (Roxb.) Schltr.), also known as Ngải bún, is a common ginger species in Mekong Delta. Its tuber roots and rhizomes are often used to cook rice noodles as an alternative to Tumeric (Curcuma longa L.). This study was to primarily describe morphological and microanatomical figures of Bồng Nga truật, together with characteristic figures in rhizome and tuber root powder.

Vetiver root has many end uses in ayurveda and textile finishing. It is multifunctional bio resource widely available in Karnataka. The present study is designed to optimize the vetiver root extract for textile finishing. The Gulabi variety vetiver root was powdered by traditional pounding technique and powder of varied concentrations (2, 4, 6 and 8 %) were subjected to aqueous and ethanol extraction. The present investigation is focused on optimization of vetiver root extract for textile application.

The collar rot caused by Sclerotium rolfsii is an important fungal pathogen in chickpea root disease complex causing serious losses. In the present study, efforts were made to prepare and test the bioefficacy of eight solid formulations and three liquid formulations against chickpea collar rot (In vitro and In vivo). The results indicated that, among all the eight solid substrates used, talc powder formulation was found to be the best carrier material to retain and support maximum propagules of Trichoderma compared to the remaining carriers.

Lassi is a popular traditional yogurt based drink from the Indian Subcontinent. Lassi is a blend of yogurt, water, spices and sometimes fruits. To increase the physical acceptability of lassi, it has been fortified with betalain powder which provides reddish colour. Colour is an important parameter for sensory analysis and consumer preference. However using synthetic colour could be harmful for health. In today’s progressive world a shift from synthetic to biocolour is observed. Betalain is a biocolour extracted from beet-root (Beta vulgaris).

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of rooting media and Indole-3-butyric acid treatments on guava terminal cuttings cv Taiwan pink. The treatments comprised of three types of rooting media i.e., coco peat, vermiculite and saw dust and six concentrations of Indole-3-butyric acid i.e., 250 ppm, 500 ppm, 750 ppm in solution form and 1500 ppm, 3000 ppm and 6000 ppm in powdered form.

An On Farm Trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of shatavari (Asparagus recemosus) on milk production in lactating buffaloes which were parturated 1 to 4 months before commencement of trial. Total 20 lactating buffaloes were selected and fed 50 gm powder of shatavari roots in concentrates once in a day for a period of 180 days. The milk production was increased 0.60+ 0.27 kg (9.67%) daily respectively as compared to their previous production. Increase in the income by feeding shatavari came to Rs. 12.00/day/animal and B:C ratio was found 1:2.28.

The cows were divided in four groups. Group G1 was control group, in which the animals receive experimental feed without any other feed supplements, whereas the animals of experimental group 2 (G2), group 3 (G3) and group 4 (G4) were fed a similar feed along with shatavari root powder 40 gm, 80 gm and 120 gm respectively.

V. jatamansi Jones is an important medicinal wild herb of North Eastern Himalayan Region belonging to family Valerianaceae. Satavari is known as queen of herbs. Active chemical constituents of Shatavari are Sarsapogenin, Saponins A-4 to A-7, Shatavarin I to IV, Sitosterol, Glycosides of quercetin, Stigmasterol, Asparagamine A and Sitosterol 7. High temperature during processing has no effect on these active constituents. Hence attempt was made to utilize satavari roots powder for preparation of herbal aonla ladoo. Satavari roots were processed to prepare powder and herbal aonla ladoo using satavari powder (2, 4 and 6%) were developed and evaluated.

An experiment was conducted to assess the effect of dietary supplementation of chicory root powder and avian specific Lactobacillus spp on blood biochemical and anti-oxidant profile of broiler birds. 250 day old commercial (Ven Cobb) broiler chicks were selected randomly and were distributed into five treatments groups. Duration of experiment was 42 days. Each treatment comprises of five replicates with 10 chicks in each replicate.

Our previous publications and the data presented here provide evidences on the ability of plantbased culture media to optimize the cultivability of rhizobacteria and to support their recovery from plant-soil environments. Compared to the tested chemically-synthetic culture media (e.g. nutrient agar and N-deficient combined-carbon sources media), slurry homogenates, crude saps, juices and powders of cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica) and succulent plants (Aloe vera and Aloe arborescens) were rich enough to support growth of rhizobacteria. The plant-based-sea water culture medium is introduced to in vitro cultivation and in situ recovery of the microbiome of halophytes. The ice plant (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum) was used, in the form of juice and/or dehydrated plant powder packed in teabags, to supplement the natural sea water. The resulting culture medium enjoys the combinations of plant materials as rich source of nutrients and sea water exercising the required salt stress. As such without any supplements, the culture medium was sufficient and efficient to support very good in vitro growth of halotolerant bacteria.
