  • Vetiver root has many end uses in ayurveda and textile finishing. It is multifunctional bio resource widely available in Karnataka. The present study is designed to optimize the vetiver root extract for textile finishing. The Gulabi variety vetiver root was powdered by traditional pounding technique and powder of varied concentrations (2, 4, 6 and 8 %) were subjected to aqueous and ethanol extraction.   • The collar rot caused by Sclerotium rolfsii is an important fungal pathogen in chickpea root disease complex causing serious losses. In the present study, efforts were made to prepare and test the bioefficacy of eight solid formulations and three liquid formulations against chickpea collar rot (In vitro and In vivo). The results indicated that, among all the eight solid substrates used, talc powder formulation was found to be the best carrier material to retain and support maximum propagules of Trichoderma compared to the remaining carriers.

  • An On Farm Trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of shatavari (Asparagus recemosus) on milk production in lactating buffaloes which were parturated 1 to 4 months before commencement of trial. Total 20 lactating buffaloes were selected and fed 50 gm powder of shatavari roots in concentrates once in a day for a period of 180 days. The milk production was increased 0.60+ 0.27 kg (9.67%) daily respectively as compared to their previous production. Increase in the income by feeding shatavari came to Rs. 12.00/day/animal and B:C ratio was found 1:2.28.

Active chemical constituents of Shatavari are Sarsapogenin, Saponins A-4 to A-7, Shatavarin I to IV, Sitosterol, Glycosides of quercetin, Stigmasterol, Asparagamine A and Sitosterol 7.   • The plant-based-sea water culture medium is introduced to in vitro cultivation and in situ recovery of the microbiome of halophytes. The ice plant (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum) was used, in the form of juice and/or dehydrated plant powder packed in teabags, to supplement the natural sea water. The resulting culture medium enjoys the combinations of plant materials as rich source of nutrients and sea water exercising the required salt stress. As such without any supplements, the culture medium was sufficient and efficient to support very good in vitro growth of halotolerant bacteria.
