Banana wilt disease, caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Tropical Race 4 (Foc TR4), is one of the most devastating diseases in banana (Musa spp.). Foc is a soil borne pathogen that causes rot of the roots or wilt of leaves by colonizing the xylem vessels.

Three Trichoderma isolates (THDU-1, THDU-2, and THDU-3) were isolated from the root zone area of healthy bananas on the farm in Ba Thuoc district, Thanh Hoa province. All of these isolates showed high inhibitory activity against soil borne diseases Rhizoctonia solani and Sclerotium rolfsii. Our study proposed a protocol of Trichoderma mass multiplication using rice media based on solid substrate fermentation (SSF) to produce commercial product of Trichoderma.

The present study was conducted to assess the effect of composite culture of Azotobacter and Phosphate solubulizing bacteria with different combinations of organic, inorganic fertilizations on growth performance of in vitro propagated Banana, cv. Grand Naine. The in vitro rooted plantlets were hardened and acclimatized by using different treatments (five treatments comprising of inoculation of composite culture, vermicompost and Inorganic fertilization) carried out in CRD replicated four times.

A field experiment was conducted during the year 2017 - 2018 to evaluate the effect of planting density and nutrient management on yield, fruit quality and post harvest characters in banana cv. Ney Poovan under coconut with nine treatments replicated thrice by using factorial randomized block design. Coconut being widely spaced owing to its morphological features provides ample opportunities for cropping in the interspaces. Active root zone of coconut is confined to 25 per cent of the available land area and the remaining area could be profitably exploited for raising subsidiary crops.

The effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on growth and nutrient uptake of banana plants (Musa acuminate) cv. ‘Grande Naine’ during nursery stage in a greenhouse was tested. After acclimatization stage, plants were inoculated with various doses of Arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi (AMF). AMF inoculum consisted of a mixture of Glomus etunicatum, Glomus intraradices and Glomus monosporum spores at concentration of 250spore/ml. After 20 weeks, vegetative growth parameters, root parameters, mineral content and protein were determined.

A total of 30 native rhizospheric microbes and 7 endophytes had been isolated and purified from rhizospheric soil samples and from roots of healthy banana plants, collected from different banana growing areas of Assam. The screening of 37 rhizospheric microbes and endophytes against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense was performed with the help of dual culture technique. A total of 30 native rhizospheric microbes and 7 endophytes had been isolated and purified from rhizospheric soil samples and from roots of healthy banana plants, collected from different banana growing areas of Assam.

The present study was carried out to monitor somaclonal variations of banana cv. Ney Poovan (AB) during micropropagation using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD). Sword suckers were used as explants and regenerated on MS media supplemented with BAP alone, BAP + Kinetin and TDZ at varying levels of concentrations. The regenerated shoots were again subcultured on MS medium fortified with plant growth regulators at different concentrations. Rooting was obtained on ½ MS medium supplemented with 2.00 mg/l IBA and 2 g/l of activated charcoal.

Banana is one of the most important and remunerative cash crops grown round the year in Ethiopia. The energy and nutritional status of banana are much higher than other common tropical and subtropical fruits. The objective of this study was to establish in vitro root development protocol in Poyo and Grand naine varieties from sucker. For root induction suckers of Poyo and Grand naine were cultured on MS basal medium that contained 30 g/l sucrose, 6 g/l agar and vitamins.

Banana (Musa paradisiaca L.) as famous tropical fruit around the world. The one important and destructive disease of banana is Fusarium wilt caused Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense (Foc). Foc as soil-borne pathogens and movement of pathogen through the rhizome and water, capable survive in waste crops at the field. The purpose research is to study physiological character of Bacillus sp. such as : ability of bacteria produced IAA (Indole Acetic Acid), gibberelin (GA3), ability phosphate solubilizing and produce salicylic acid as biological control against Foc.

Fusarium wilt being caused by a major vascular pathogen of banana and it is difficult to control once it gets colonized. The present study was aimed at screening the potential endophytic bacteria against the Fusarium pathogen. The pathogen was first isolated from the diseased infected plant and morphologically and molecularly confirmed as Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense (Foc) and its virulence confirmed. The culturable bacterial endophytes were isolated from the Foc-resistant banana cultivar ‘Yangambi km5’ and Foc-susceptible banana cultivar ‘Ney Poovan’.

Banana variety Nanjanagudu rasabale has been found growing in parts of Mysuru district, known for its unique aroma, flavour, taste and shelf life but unfortunately deemed as an endangered variety. Having given GI protection hope for bringing this variety back to field by producing disease free tissue culture plants demanded development of an efficient protocol for in vitro regeneration. In the present investigation, both citric acid and ascorbic acid found effective in inhibiting browning of shoot tip explant due to phenolic compounds.

The effect of optimized dosage of bio-agents as soil application and as sucker treatment for the management of root knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita and spiral nematode, Helicotylenchus multicinctus in banana was studied under field condition. Application of Pseudomonas fluorescens 100g as soil application resulted in 68% reduction of root knot nematode and spiral nematode populations over control. The P. fluorescens soil treatment also recorded enhanced the plant height (274.0 cm), number of leaves (14.0/plant), pseudostem girth (55.9 cm) at 270 days after planting.

Identification of defense-related genes in the host is one of the most essential steps in understanding disease resistance mechanisms in plants. In this study, a suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) library was constructed to study differential gene expression in banana plants mediated through a Fusarium wilt pathogen (Fusarium oxysporum f.sp cubense – Foc) and its interaction with the Foc effective biocontrol agent Trichoderma asperellum (prr2). Here cDNAs from the roots of banana cv.

Three newly selected superior banana types were used to study the effects of different cytokinins and auxins on shoot multiplication and rooting. Benzylaminopurine [(BAP) (5, 10, 20 and 30 µM)] and thidiazuron [(TDZ) (0.4, 1, 2 and 3 µM)] were tested alone and with 1 µM indoleacetic acid (IAA) for the propagation stage.
