A study was carried out to establish efficient and reliable in vitro propagation protocol for Gisela 5 (Prunus cerasus x Prunus canescens) - clonal cherry rootstock. Axillary and terminal buds of ‘Gisela 5’ were collected in the spring and cultured on MS medium. After the in vitro cultures were sufficiently established, experiments were conducted to assess the influence of different levels of benzyladenine (BA), kinetin (Kin), thidiazuron (TDZ), gibrellic acid (GA3) and indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) on in vitro shoot multiplication.

An investigation was carried out to know the effect of age of rootstocks on budding success percentage of jackfruit. Patch budding was done on 2, 4, 6, and 8 months old rootstocks of jackfruit using variety NSP as scion material. The budded plants were kept under open sunlight for four weeks and observed for budding success.

Citrus, one of the most important group of fruit crops around the world, are propagated at large scale with many difficulties. Propagation through seeds is challenging because of Phytophthora foot rot together with recalcitrance of citrus seeds. Vegetative propagation of Citrus species is mainly performed now-a-days by budding on seedling rootstocks. As heavy losses are experienced among the susceptible seedlings due to Phytophthora and Citrus tristeza virus (CTV), the interest in resistant rootstocks has greatly increased.

Generally the fruit trees are composed of two different parts; rootstock and scion. Rootstocks influence the growth and vigour, production, water relations, physiology and nutrient status of scion leaves grafted or budded onto them. This review describes and discusses the rootstock effects on these parameters of scion cultivars in different temperate fruits more particularly stone fruits.

In Punjab sweet orange and commercial mandarin cultivars are generally grafted or budded on rootstock of rough lemon. This rootstock is highly vulnerable to phytophthora (foot rot) like diseases. Moreover, quality of kinnow plants budded or grafted on an effective rootstock should have good compatibility between both, scion and rootstock besides decent tolerance against predominant edaphic and environmental circumstances. The rootstocks have major effect in tree vigour, quality of the fruit, juice quality, yield including tolerance to salt and cold conditions.

The effect of various physio-biochemical parameters on the water use efficiency (WUE) of grape varieties, rootstocks and budded vines was studied in 3 separate experiments at 3 levels of irrigation (100%, 50% and no irrigation) for 14 days of stress cycle. None of the varieties or rootstocks could survive beyond 4 days under the no irrigation treatment.

W. Murcott scion, budded onto two rootstocks, was evaluated under high pH conditions supplied with different Fe levels. Plant dry weight, leaf area, iron chlorosis symptom scale, leaf chlorophyll concentration, net photosynthetic rate, and ferric-chelate reductase (FCR) activity variables were investigated under high pH conditions.
