Royal jelly (RJ) is reflecting the flora around the apiaries as a result of the foraging activity of honeybees and therefore, pollen analysis could be used to verify its botanical/geographical origin. Colon cancer treatment by means of chemotherapeutics agents reflects a substantial problem for the organism due to high toxicity to other viable cells of the body. To explore a chemopreventive approach to enhancing colon cancer treatment efficacy, the antioxidant and antiproliferative effects of RJ in HT-29 colon cancer cells were assessed.

Beekeeping is a forest and agro-based industry, which is beyond the ordinary realms of industry, in the sense that the humans derive benefits from interaction between two living things like plants and bees without affecting adversely both. On the contrary plants, including many crops, prosper with the abundance of bees (as pollinating agents) and the bees, sheltered both by nature and humans provide mainly honey and other by-products like beeswax, bee-pollen, propolis and royal jelly.

Royal jelly (RJ) is a bee product with great potential as a supplementary food and in the future it will be very important for the pharmaceutical industry. The aim of this study is first to determine the content of 10-HDA in Bulgarian RJ and second to identify if the content of 10-HDA in RJ depends on supplementary feeding of the bee families. A total of 50 RJ samples were analyzed. The data about Bulgarian royal jelly is not available, therefore the results presented in this study could be considered as a pioneer study for 10- HDA content in Bulgarian royal jelly.

Royal jelly (RJ) is one of the most attractive bee products. RJ has long been used in traditional medicine. Due to various pharmacological properties, including antioxidative, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, RJ has been widely consumed in daily diets in numerous countries. The purpose of the present study is to find out some correlations of physicochemical parameters, antioxidant activity and total polyphenol content of fresh RJ samples.

Laboratory experiments were conducted to explore the diversity of naturally-occurring probiotic lactic acid bacteria (LAB) associated with honey bees and to understand whether they can be used as probiotics to manage honey bee stressors. Honey stomach, honey, bee bread, bee pollen and royal jelly from different species of honey bees (Apis ceranaindica Fabricius, Apis melliefra Linnaeus, Apis florea Fabricius, Apis dorsata Fabricius, Tetragonula iridipennis Smith) were examined for the presence of LAB.

Royal jelly (RJ) consumption has grown significantly during the last few decades due to its high nutritional value and unique components. The price of pure RJ is much higher than other bee products making it susceptible to adulteration with drone brood (DB) and honey. The aim of the present paper is to characterize the sugar composition of RJ samples adulterated with DB and honey in order to find out possible descriptors for adulterated RJ samples. The information obtained is important for practical purposes in order easily and efficiently to assess the RJ authenticity.
