Rumen motility

A seven year old female goat weighing 33 kg was presented with history of ingestion of unknown of Urea fertilizer before half an hour. Clinically animal was active and physiological parameters like rectal temperature and respiration rates were within normal range. Tachycardia and mild bloat with reduced rumen motility was also noted. The goat was given Inj. Normal Saline@ 25ml/kg body weight along with Inj. Dexamethasone@ 2mg/kg, Inj. Atropine Sulphate@ 0.02mg/kg body weight intravenous. Inj. Enrofloxacin@ 2.5mg/kg body weight intramuscular was given.

The present study was aimed for studying epidemiological, clinico-pathological, hematobiochemical and therapeutic management of indigestion in buffaloes in and around Pantnagar of Uttarakhand state. Rumen motility reduced substantially in all the therapeutic groups. Before the treatment, pH of rumen liquor was slightly acidic in all the treatment groups.

Number of analgesics of NSAID group viz., meloxicam and rofecoxib etc has been used in management of post-operative pain, ruminal motility was observed to be adversely affected by pre-emptive administration of meloxicam in dystocia affected buffaloes and caesarean operation further added to this effect on rumen function.

The present study was conducted on 30 cattle presented at the institutional veterinary hospital which were diagnosed of suffering for the small bowel intussusception. Detailed signalment including age, sex, breed, pregnancy status and season were recorded in all the animals. History of feed and water intake, defecation status, rumination status, type of feeding, any recent change in feed, history of deworming and feeding of mineral mixture was also recorded.Clinical signs such as signs of colic, abdominal distension, rumen impaction, laboured breathing and ruminal bloat were accessed.

The present study was conducted on thirty cattle suffering from small bowel intussusception presented at the institutional veterinary hospital. The animals were divided into three equal groups depending upon the duration of intussusception since the first signs of colic appear viz. Group I (n=10) (since 48 hours), Group II (n=10) (>48 hours to 120 hours and Group III (n=10) (120 hours to 192 hours). The data from these animals was compared with the values obtained from the 6 healthy animals (control group) from the organised farm.

Diarrhoea is one of the most important problem causing great economic loss to dairy industry by drastic reduction in milk production. The present study was carried out in cattle reared at different organized dairy farms in and around Durg to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of synbiotics along with antibiotic in diarrhoeic cattle. A total of 18 cattle were selected and divided into three groups. Group I (n=6) served as normal healthy control whereas group (n=6) II and III were diarrhoeic cattle.
