Porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED), caused by the Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV), is an acute, highly contagious disease of pigs of all ages, especially piglets under one week old, with the mortality rate reaching 95–100%. Developing an effective vaccine against PEDV in Vietnam is urgent.

In the Western world bovine milk products are an important protein source in human diet. The major proteins in bovine milk are the four caseins (CN), αS1-, αS2-, β-, and k-CN and the two whey proteins, β-LG and α-LA. It has been shown that both the amount of specific CN and their isoforms including post-translational modifications (PTM) influence technological properties of milk.

Transfer ribonucleic acids (tRNAs) serve not only as amino acid carriers during translation but also as a template for the biogenesis of short fragments that can regulate gene expression. Despite recent progress in the function of tRNA-derived fragments (tRFs), their intracellular localization, protein partners, and role in regulating translation are not well understood. We used synthetic tRFs to investigate their localization and function in Drosophila S2 cells.

Drosophila model is intensively studied for the development of cancer. The diminutive (dMyc), a homolog of the human MYC gene, is responsible for cell- apoptosis and its upregulation is responsible for determining the fate of cancerous growth in humans and Drosophila model. This work implores the requirement of dMyc and its expression as one of the major regulator of cancer with other proteins and repression of dMyc mRNA in Drosophila S2 cells.

Ten cultures including four local checks T9, TAU1, Sumanjana and Syama of blackgram were evaluated over open conditions to study the stability parameters viz., regression coefficient (bi) and mean square deviation (S2 di) from linear regression along with per se performance for days to flowering, plant height, number of branches per plant, number of pod bearing branches per plant, number of pods per plant, pod length, number of seeds per pod, test weight, yield per plant and protein content.

A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2017 on loamy sand soil to study the Effect of Fertility Levels and Stress Mitigating Chemicals on productivity of Mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek]. The experiment consisted of four fertility levels [control (F0), 50% RDF (F1), 75% RDF (F2), 100% RDF (F3) ] and four stress mitigating chemicals [control (S0), SA @ 75 ppm at flower initiation and 7 days after first spray (S1), SA@75 ppm + 2% Urea at flower initiation (S2) and Thiourea @ 500 ppm (S3)].

A Drosophila melanogaster cDNA clone (GH01916) encoding a putative 723-residue long (82 kDa) protein (CG 7415) and displaying 50% identity with mammalian cytosolic dipeptidyl aminopeptidase (DPP) III was func-tionally expressed in Schneider S2 cells. Immunocytochemi-cal studies using anti-(rat liver DPP III) Ig indicated the expression of this putative DPP III at the outer cell mem-brane and into the cytosol of transfected cells.

PTP-S2⁄TC45 is a nuclear protein tyrosine phosphatase that activates p53 and induces caspase 1-dependent apoptosis. We analyzed the role of ICE protease-activating factor (Ipaf), an activator of caspase 1 in p53-depend-ent apoptosis. We also determined the sequence of events that lead to apoptosis upon caspase 1 activation by Ipaf.

This study of the full-length bifunctional nonstructural protein 3 from hep-atitis C virus (HCV) has revealed that residues in the helicase domain affect the inhibition of the protease. Two residues (Q526 and H528), appar-ently located in the interface between the S2 and S4 binding pockets of the substrate binding site of the protease, were selected for modification, and three enzyme variants (Q526A, H528A and H528S) were expressed, puri-fied and characterized.

Many protein substrates of caspases are cleaved at noncanonical sites in comparison to the recognition motifs reported for the three caspase sub-groups. To provide insight into the specificity and aid in the design of drugs to control cell death, crystal structures of caspase-7 were determined in complexes with six peptide analogs (Ac-DMQD-Cho, Ac-DQMD-Cho, Ac-DNLD-Cho, Ac-IEPD-Cho, Ac-ESMD-Cho, Ac-WEHD-Cho) that span the major recognition motifs of the three subgroups.
