The research was carried out to determine the persistence of acephate and chlorpyriphos on cucumber crop and soil along with the effect of decontamination processes. The initial deposits due to single dose of acephate (560 g a.i. ha-1 ) and chlorpyriphos (300 g a.i. ha-1 ),) were 0.640 and 0.980 mg kg-1 , respectively in cucumber fruits. However, at double dose the initial deposits were 1.123 and 1.860 mg kg-1 for respective insecticides. Acephate and chlorpyriphos residues persisted in cucumber fruits upto 5 and 7 days at single dose and 7 and 10 days at double dose, respectively.

Combined soil application of Bio NPK and pesticides either simultaneous and sequential can enhanced plant growth parameters effectively and most of the pesticides tested viz. Profenofos 50% EC, Spinosad 45% SC, Dichlorvos 76% EC, Imidacloprid 30.5% EC, Fipronil 5% SC, Chlorpyrifos 20% EC, Pyraclotrobin 20% WG, Ridomil 68% WP, Quizalofop 5% EC and Finoxaprop 9% EC found safe to beneficial bacteria at the field recommended dose exhibiting no reduction of bacterial population compared with untreated control.

Pesticide drift occurs when pesticides suspended in the air as particles are carried by wind to other areas, potentially contaminating them. Pesticides are one of the causes of water pollution and some pesticides are persistent organic pollutants and contribute to soil contamination. Detection of pesticide molecules in the food items from plant and animal origin become imperative for safe consumption of food.
