Saline and iodine mount

In this retrospective study, 1872 stool specimens examined from January 2018 to December 2018 by saline and iodine mount were included. The negative samples were further screened using formol ether concentration technique. 114 (16.1%) out of 1872 specimens were positive for parasitic infection.

The main objective of the study is to estimate prevalence of soil transmitted helminthic infection and factors associated with hookworm infections. Stool samples were collected from children admitted in wards, ICU’s and school camps and subjected to wet mount by iodine and saline. They were also subjected to concentration technique by formalin ethyl acetate solution.

The study was carried out in the Department of Microbiology at our hospital from January 2017 to June 2018. A total of 880 patients were investigated for parasites from their stool samples. Specimens were collected in a suitable, clean, wide mouthed container and were examined using macroscopic and microscopic technique (saline and iodine mount).
