This study investigated the sublethal effects of salinity on four macroinvertebrate species commonly occurring in Australian freshwater ecosystems. These were; the introduced worm Lumbriculus variegatus Müller (Annelida: Oligochaeta), the introduced snail Physa acuta Draparnaud (Gastropoda: Physidae), the shrimp Paratya australiensis Kemp (Decapoda: Atyidae) and the midge Chironomus tepperi Skuse (Diptera: Chironomidae). The effects of salinity on growth, development and reproduction of these species were investigated through a series of laboratory tests.

Sweet sorghum is a new generation bio-energy crop with considerable tolerance to drought and salinity and amenable for multiple uses. Sweet sorghum has elicited the interest of breeder due to its capacity to provide renewable energy products, industrial commodities, food and animal feed. The sweet sorghum donor RSSV 313 is developed through a cross NSS223 x NARI 111 at MPKV, Rahuri through pedigree selection as identified and recommended as a donor parent in crop improvement programme based on specific physiological traits viz.

Use of poor quality water for agriculture production requires appropriate management strategies such as leaching of excessive salts, selection of salt tolerant crops, frequent application of water etc. Thus a field experiment was conducted at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar to study the salt dynamics in soil under drip irrigation system on cabbage crop and to investigate the effect of frequency and salinity levels of irrigation water on cabbage.

Objectives: Identifying the salinity tolerance and phenotype of the rice lines which carrying the Saltollocus (donor plant), imported from International Rice Research Institute, as well as selecting the popularly grown rice cultivar were used as the recipient plant Applying marker assisted backcrossing (MABC) to pyramid salinity tolerance Saltol locus into Bac Thom 7, in order to generate the high quality rice variety with salinity tolerance for growing the coastal areas in Red River Delta.
