Salmonella is a very important foodborne pathogen causing illness in humans. The emergence of drug-resistant strains also constitutes a serious worry to global health and livestock productivity. This study investigated Salmonella isolates from chicken and chicken meat products using the phenotypic antimicrobial screening as well as the molecular characteristics of Salmonella isolates.

Salmonella enterica is a significant foodborne pathogen, which can be transmitted via several distinct routes, and reports on acquisition of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) are increasing. To better understand the association between human Salmonella clinical isolates and the potential environmental/animal reservoirs, whole genome sequencing (WGS) was used to investigate the epidemiology and AMR patterns within Salmonella isolates from two adjacent US states.

Salmonella Infantis (S. Infantis) is one of the most frequent Salmonella serovars isolated from human cases of salmonellosis and the most detected serovar from animal and food sources in Europe. The serovar is commonly associated with poultry and there is increasing concern over multidrug resistant clones spreading worldwide, as the dominating clones are characterized by presence of large plasmids carrying multiple resistance genes.

Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Napoli (S. Napoli) is among the top serovars causing human infections in Italy, although it is relatively uncommon in other European countries; it is mainly isolated from humans and the environment, but neither the reservoir nor its route of infection are clearly defined.

The aim of this study was to support for finding novel mechanisms that render bacteria resistant to the ribosome targeting antibiotics, we screen for antibiotic resistant 16S and 23S ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) in multidrug resistant Salmonella serovars isolated from raw retail meats isolated from Hanoi, Vietnam. Bioinformatic analysis identified 193 unknown novel mutations (64 mutations in 16S rRNA and 129 mutations in 23S rRNA genes).

Salmonellosis is one of the major leading foodborne zoonotic diseases reported worldwide, poultry and poultry products including table eggs were reported as the most important source for foodborne outbreaks in humans. The present study was designed to determine and compare the occurrence of Salmonella serovars by cultural and molecular (PCR) methods in processed, unprocessed and desi table eggs available in the markets, resistance pattern of isolates for commonly used antibiotics and decontamination of table eggs using chlorine and peracetic acid.

Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar typhimurium is a gram-negative serious contagious pathogen having a broad host range. It has been associated with a wide spectrum of infectious diseases, including typhoid fever and nontyphoidal salmonellosis, which cause public health problems worldwide. Several genes contribute in virulence and determine pathogenicity of this isolate.

Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi is an intracellular anaerobic gram-negative bacterium, which causes typhoid fever in humans. The emergence of multi-drug resistance Salmonella typhi strains has become a significant issue leading to more difficulties in the management of disease especially in developing countries. High genetic variations among the field isolates may cause vaccination failure.

Enteric fever is a global health problem causing high morbidity and mortality, especially in endemic areas such as India. The problem is exacerbated as the causative agent, Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serovar Typhi (S. typhi), rapidly develops resistance to drugs used in treatment.

Typhoid fever is a systemic infection caused by Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serovar Typhi. A very similar but often less severe disease is caused by S. paratyphi A, B and sometimes C. Enteric fever is endemic in all parts of India. S. typhi and S. paratyphi A are the predominant types of Salmonella responsible of enteric fever in India. An antibiogram is the result of a laboratory testing for the sensitivity of an isolated bacterial strain to different antibiotics.

Salmonella is a foodborne pathogen having a worldwide public health concern. The present study was undertaken to characterize Salmonella typhimurium of animal origin based on cultural isolation and genetic diversity studies by employing ERIC-PCR and REP-PCR. A total of 516 samples comprising poultry cloacal swabs (249), raw foods of animal origin (118 chicken samples, 65 mutton and 30 pork), 17 poultry liver swabs and 37 poultry farm water samples were examined for presence of Salmonella serovars.

The study was aimed to detect virulence associated genes of Salmonella serovars, which were isolated from raw pork samples of unorganised butcher shops of Aizawl and Imphal. A total of 5 Salmonella isolates (Aizawl=2, Imphal=3), belonging to Salmonella vircho (n=4), and Salmonella typhimurium (n=1), were obtained from 200 samples (100= Aizawl and 100= Imphal) and screened for five virulence associated genes, namely invA, stn, pefA, sefC, spvC by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique.

Typhoid fever remain a leading cause of morbidity, mortality and economic loss regardless of age or gender in developing countries. A sensitive and specific test is urgently needed for the accuracy of the diagnosis. The clinical pictures is commonly misleading with other ferial diseases and diagnosis depends mainly on the laboratory. By using molecular method especially nested PCR it provides the highest sensitivity and specificity.
