In ebook "Inorganic 3D structures (Structure and bonding, Volume 138)" the reader will find a topical account of examples illustrating WMS’s conjecture (Fe5Si3/Ca5P3) which when taken together define a General Principle which has considerable predictive utility. In Chap. 1, Santamarı´a-Pe´rez and Liebau report the elegant relationships between intermetallic clathrates, porous tectosilicates, and clathrate hydrates, thus completing the huge task of putting the structures of the whole silicate family under a common basis, which was initiated some years ago.

Composite foams at varying salt hydrate content were prepared (0e70% wt.). The optimal formulation was addressed by coupling morphological, absorption, and energy storage density performances. Based on sorption, manufacturing, service, and handling feasibility, these results indicate this material as a potentially effective option for this application.

Salt hydrates, classified as inorganic phase change materials, are used in thermal energy storage (TES) systems. Due to their superior properties such as higher thermal conductivity and better thermal energy storage density, non-flammability and availability in wide temperature ranges at a reasonable cost than organic PCMs, salt hydrates are preferable PCMs.

The molten salt hydrate, lithium chloride (LiCl)/urea/water has previously been shown to swell cellulose, but there has so far been no work done to explore its effect on other polysaccharides. In this paper we have investigated the solvent effects of LiCl/urea/water on four natural polysaccharides.

There is a widespread belief that salts promote retention of solutes in hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) by expanding the volume of the immobilized layer of water on the surface of the stationary phase. To date, all studies of this premise have had flaws or limitations that left the question open. This study explored the effects of salt type and concentration.

A hydrated complex of 1,10-phenanthroline with Cu2+ cation was intercalated in the interlayer space of montmorillonite. This intercalation occurs initially by through a cation exchange mechanism in which the charge of the complex cation compensates the excess of the negative charge of the interlayer, then, once the cation exchange capacity (CEC) value has been reached, by direct adsorption of the sulfate salt of this complex (i.e. the cation together with its sulfate counterion).

The crystal transformation process of magnesium carbonate hydrate by the reaction of magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) with ammonium carbonate [(NH4)2CO3] was investigated. MgSO4 is one of the main magnesium resources of the Lop Nur salt lake in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region of China. Magnesium carbonate hydrates with different chemical compositions were prepared. The transformation process of the 2 crystals, MgSO4 and (NH4)2CO3, was analyzed by Raman spectroscopy, and the associated changes in crystal morphology were observed by scanning electron microscopy.

In this work, the influence of proline and ascorbic acid on physiological parameters in seeds subjected to different levels of salt stress was studied in tomato. The salinity stress declined seed germination and seed vigour parameters. Different treatments (hydration, different concentrations of proline 5mM, 10mM and ascorbic acid 1mM, 4mM) were given to seeds at 25mM, 50mM and 75mM NaCl concentrations.

Potassium permanganate absorbed on copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate oxidizes aniline into azobenzene under heterogenous conditions. Azoxybenzene is a minor by-product. Under solventless reaction conditions, the oxidation does not take place owing to predominant complex formation between copper(II) and aniline. The influence of the nature of the solvent as well as the replacement of copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate by several other inorganic salt hydrates on the potassium permanganate promoted oxidation of aniline is described.
