Sample patient histories

This was a single-center, retrospective, observational case series. Data were collected on all cases who presented with severe lactic acidosis after use of traditional herbal anti-diabetic pills, over the two-year time period 2018 – 2019. Past medical histories and clinical findings were reviewed. Samples of the herbal anti-diabetic products, and patient blood and urine were analyzed.

Candidiasis is the commonest fungal disease found in humans affecting mucosa, skin, nails and internal organs. It is caused by various species of yeast like fungi belonging to genus Candida with Candida albicans as the representative species. This study was undertaken to find out the prevalence of candidiasis in immunocompromised patients in this part of the country as well as to identify the different species isolated. History was elicited from all the patients enrolled in this study after taking informed consent from the patient.

Dengue fever is an arthropod borne viral disease present as either a non-specific illness, dengue fever (DF) or DHF, DSS leading to hospitalization or death. In routine laboratories diagnosis is mainly based on the detection of dengue antigens (NS1) or antibodies (IgM and IgG) by ELISA kits. Objectives of the study are to find out the seropositivity of dengue virus infection in patients admitted in a tertiary care hospital and to study the clinical presentation of dengue in serologically diagnosed cases. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the inflammatory disorders of the urinary tract caused by the abnormal growth of pathogens. Microscopy of urine is of diagnostic value and culture is still the gold standard for isolation of bacteria. However presumptive approach with non -culture rapid screening tests is more practical and cost-effective to manage UTI. The present study is therefore being undertaken to evaluate the usefulness of several laboratory based rapid screening tests compared to culture.

Infection complicates the pathological picture of diabetic foot and plays a main role in development of moist gangrene. A total sample size of 100 patients with diabetic foot ulcer was included in this cross sectional study. A detailed history was obtained and assessment of clinical symptoms and signs were made. Discharge from the lesions, pus aspirates from the abscesses and debrided necrotic materials were collected. Aerobic culture anerobic culture and antibiotic susceptibility testing was done. Males were the predominant group in this study 66% as compared to females 34%.

Maternal infections caused by TORCH [Toxoplasma gondii, Rubella virus, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Herpes simplex virus (HSV)] are the major causes of bad obstetric history. The aim of this study was to evaluate the age wise seroprevalence and to assess the seropositivity of Toxoplasma and Rubella among TORCH infections in pregnant women with BOH. Tuberculosis (TB) is the commonest opportunistic infection and cause of death in patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in developing countries. World Health Organization (WHO) recommends 85% treatment success rate for all TB cases as an indicator of TB control. The study aimed at determining TB co infection among the seropositive cases.
