Scientific temperament

The study was conducted in Indore district of Sawer blocks M.P. where FLDs were conducted by IARI Regional station on Wheat, Indore M.P. during 2015-16 and 2016-17,60 wheat growers were benefited by this programme. All the beneficiary farmers, and same number of non-beneficiary farmers, were selected randomly from same villages of Indore district. Thus, 120 respondents were selected to constitute the sample of the study.

The study revealed that majority (68.75%) of the farmers belonged to middle age group, had medium annual income (58.75%), belong to medium social cohesiveness(81.25%), had medium mass medium access (72.50%), had medium knowledge on climate change(83.75%). Having more percentage of respondents on medium and high level of fatalism as it was found in result hinted that there is need to develop competencies of farmers on consequences of climate change through the services of agricultural extensionists.

A field experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of sulphur levels on grain yield of clusterbean on the yield attributes of clusterbean in Hanumangarh District of Rajasthan. Result showed that the assessed technology of T3- Soil application of sulphur @ 40 kg per hectare recorded highest average grain yield (10.37 qtl/ha) and highest average net returns (Rs. 27,013 per ha) as compared to T2- Soil application of sulphur @ 20 kg per hectare and farmers practice. Agricultural innovations and diffusion of new technologies are key drivers to achieve food security in the country besides providing farmers a competitive edge over traditional farming, thus facilitating better standards of living. In this context, cluster demonstrations is a novel approach to provide direct interface between scientists and farmers in planning, execution & monitoring phases of the demonstrations. Indian council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has launched Cluster Demonstrations Programme on pulse and oilseed crops in the year 2015-2016.

We have previously identi®ed a DNA ligase (LigTk)froma hyperthermophilic archaeon,Thermococcus kodakaraensis KOD1. The enzyme is the only characterized ATP-depend-ent DNA ligase from a hyperthermophile, and allows the analysis of enzymatic DNA ligation reactions at tempera-tures above themeltingpoint of the substrates.Herewe have focused on the interactions of LigTkwith various DNA substrates, and its speci®cities toward metal cations.

Proteins tend to form inactive aggregates at high tempera-tures. We show that polyamines, which have a relatively simple structure as oligoamids, effectively prevent thermal inactivation and aggregation of hen egg lysozyme.
