Scorzonera L.

Natural sources used as folk medicines in Merzifon were investigated in this study. It was determined that 35 plant and 4 animal species together with 3 animal and 1 inorganic sources are being used as various preparations of folk medicines in Merzifon area. All the collected medicinal plants were identified and voucher specimens were deposited in the Herbarium of Hacettepe University, Faculty of Pharmacy (HUEF).

Palynological observations on the genus Scorzonera L. (Asteraceae) from north-east Anatolia (Turkey)
Pollen morphology of the 13 taxa of Scorzonera L. (Asteraceae) from Turkey was investigated by using light(LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). As a result of LM and SEM observations, it was found that the pollen types are generally isopolar, radially symmetric, triangular in polar view, and lophate, with lophae ornamentations that are echinate-perforate and an exine thickness ranging from 6.99 to 11.82 μm.

Scorzonera amasiana Hausskn. & Bornm. is a stenoendemic species known from a few localities in Amasya Province. After the rediscovery of S. amasiana, it has been recorded from a new locality in Amasya. Using chorological and ecological data, morphological study of the collected specimens suggest that the recently described Scorzonera ekimii A.

Scorzonera ketzkhovelii Grossh. (Asteraceae) was recently collected from Yusufeli, Artvin (north-east Anatolia) and it has been reported as a new species record for the flora of Turkey. It is described and illustrated. In addition, its karyological features and pollen morphology are given.

Scorzonera zorkunensis Coskuncelebi & S.Makbul (Asteraceae) is described and illustrated from Turkey. It grows on serpentine in alpine steppe vegetation together with several endemic Scorzonera L. species in southern Anatolia at altitudes of 2075-2100 m. It is morphologically similar to S. pisidica Hub.-Mor., but it differs in its habit and stem and leaf pubescence.

In the present study, chromosome morphology of 32 Scorzonera L. taxa, including 19 species endemic to Turkey, was analyzed. The plant materials were collected from different natural populations of Turkey between 2005 and 2011.
