Screening of groundnut genotypes

Xem 1-8 trên 8 kết quả Screening of groundnut genotypes
  • In this context, genetic resistance remains the most economical method for the resource poor farmers. So far, the released varieties are found to be susceptible to GBND. Identification of GBND resistant sources in newly developed advanced breeding lines which are agronomically superior would help in recommending and release of these genotypes for GBND endemic locations. Keeping in view the economic importance of the disease in most of the groundnut growing areas and lack of available resistance sources to GBND, present work has been taken up.

  • Leaf spots are the most serious foliar fungal diseases of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) World wide. Early leaf spot and late leaf spots, singly or together can cause losses in pod yield of over 50% and reduce the quality of the pod and fodder. Screening of genotypes and advance breeding lines is one of the primary objective for resistance breeding in groundnut. Present investigation was carried out to screen 33 advance breeding lines and 7 released varieties of groundnut against early and late leaf spot diseases.

  • An experiment was conducted at College of Agriculture, Nagpur to screen forty different groundnut genotypes against tikka disease of groundnut during kharif, 2016-17 in randomized block design with three replications. Biochemical constituents of phenol, total sugar and chlorophyll at 45-50DAS (flowering stage) and 90DAS (pod development stage) were estimated from leaves of healthy and diseased samples. Forty genotypes of groundnut were screened for tikka disease under field condition.

  • Nineteen groundnut genotypes were screened for physiological characters, chlorophyll content and nitrate reductase activity at 30 DAS (pre-anthesis) and 60 DAS (post-anthesis) along with kernel yield during the Pre-summer. Leaf chlorophyll content and nitrate reductase activity plays a considerable role in plant metabolism.

  • Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) production is constrained by a myriad of biotic and abiotic stresses which necessitate the development and use of superior varieties for increased yield. Germplasm characterisation both at the phenotypic and molecular level becomes important in all plant breeding programs. The aim of this study was to characterise groundnut genotypes at molecular level using simple sequence repeats (SSR). A total of 30 SSR markers were screened and 20 were found to be polymorphic with an average polymorphic information content (PIC) value of 0.57.

  • Groundnut being one of the important oilseed crops rapidly deteriorates during storage due to accumulation of cytotoxic compounds leading to loss of viability and seedling vigor. Although seeds deteriorate naturally during storage, the time taken for complete deterioration process is longer. Globally, researchers employed accelerated ageing method efficiently to screen large number of genotypes to assess the genetic variability for cellular tolerance.
