Secondary infertility

Infertility for dummies was conceived by combining Jackie’s knowledge of infertility from a patient’s viewpoint, Sharon’s wealth of information as an infertility nurse, and both of their personal experiences. We wrote this book so that patients dealing with infertility will know that they’re not alone. We hope it finds its way to the bookshelves and nightstands of all the patients who need it to help find their road to their baby.

Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma genitalium are infectious pathogens resulting in non-gonococcal urethritis and complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and infertility. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of U. urealyticum and M. genitalium in women with secondary infertility and the related factors to these infections. C.trachomatis is one of the most frequently detected sexually transmitted bacterial pathogen as per CDC. Chlamydial infection has major clinical and epidemiological significance in women. This study aims to determine the magnitude of C. trachomatis infection in infertile women and study associated sociodemographic factors. Prospective cross-sectional hospital based study. The study was approved by Institutional Ethics Committee. Two endocervical specimen were collected aseptically by per-speculum examination from 120 women aged 18-45 years.

Infertility is defined as the failure to conceive after one year of attempting pregnancy. Primary infertility denotes those patients who have never conceived. Secondary infertility applies to patients who have conceived previously. Approximately 15% of couples experience infertility, which may result from subfertility or sterility (the innate inability to conceive) in either partner or both. The female is responsible in 40%–50% of cases. The male is responsible in 30% and is contributory in another 20%–30% of couples.
